Hey Everyone,

Got 10 days to decide what to buy so I get it in time to go on holiday as most places I looked at buying are 15 day turn around. I will be picking it up so can check it before I leave but its a massive drive so can''t view before hand.

I''m really sorry if I sounds stupid but I''ve made a real attempt at learning all the info needed but to be honest I''m not the sharpest tool in the box

I have all but decided on http://www.diamonds.net/UF/53599/Certs/1109717676.jpg Which is £725 inc Tax

Really want the diamond to sparkle, should I have looked for an eye clean S1 and a G instead ?

I think this is the simple setting I''m going for in Platinum. From what I''ve read it should be a good strong setting for holding the stone. My "hopefully" new fiancee can be a bit clumsy

Any reply''s would be really great.
Many Thanks

Hi Charly and welcome!

You are too funny! But please, NO question or query is stupid, we want everyone to feel free to ask whatever they want and to receive a polite and respectful answer in return.

As to the diamond you picked, it has excellent numbers so you have obviously done your homework. Is the diamond with an online vendor so you could obtain an Idealscope image or is it with a brick and mortar store? The numbers are about as safe as you can get but IS is always the final judge to be sure. If you wanted to try to go a bit larger you could look for a stone with similar proportions which is SI clarity if verified eyeclean by a trusted vendor and also you still have a bit of room to lower the colour too but it is a personal preference which you choose.

That is a classic setting you have chosen, if you are concerned with security of the stone, some vendors offer 6 prong versions if you prefer.

Stone looks promising from the numbers.

Hey Thanks

I could go slightly bigger Like This But would want to see it first.

They are an internet shop but they do have bricks and mortar so I might put a deposit down so they get the stone in then go and view it before I make up my mind. Then have it posted when they have set it.

The bigger stone is probably not well cut from the proportions, slightly steep in the pavilion angle for that crown angle, will probably have leakage, will need idealscope image to confirm. There is a sharp jump in $/carat at the 0.5c mark, so many cutters will cut worse cut just to get over that carat size.

Thanks :)

I''ve got a good feeling about that first one :) So might ask them to get it in

This one is iffy because it has grade making clouds in SI2 clarity, it is possible these clouds could negatively impact the beauty of the stone. Try to keep pavilion angles between 40.6 - 41 degrees if possible.

Ignore me, just had a phone call

Just like to say thanks, its being imported and I''ll hopefully get to view it before its set.

Thanks Charly, if it is the first one you decided on I think you picked a great diamond, let us know what you think when it arrives.

Yes it was the first one

Just got to decide on Platinum vs white gold now

Leaning towards Platinum but waiting on an email to let me know what grade of Plat they use, as I said she is clumsy some times so think I''d like the extra strength.

The forum has been a great place to find out about rocks and it has helped me realise that they sell rubbish in the high street shops for daft money !! six weeks ago I was so naive and almost bought a 0.33 H SI2 with white gold setting for the same money as what I''ve just put a deposit down on a Plat setting 0.46 H VS2

Thankyou
