Hello!

I first want to re-post that OMG offered to provide nutritional assistance. That is awesome and I''m sure we''d be happy to have the help! So first off, what are some creative ways to get veggies in if you don''t like veggies?

How was everyone''s weekends?

Hey Sarah!!!

The weekend was pretty good! I went down to FL and took care of the floral situation (we''re DIY-ing it. My mom has done floral arrangements as a hobby. Mostly Artificial, but she''s confident she can do this for the wedding), more or less decided on the photog, and met with the officiant. Plus checked out the weather and it''s GORGEOUS is WPB in October. It''s super nice because it''s COLD COLD COLD in Chicago right now (like 40s) and WARM WARM WARM in Florida (like 70-80s).

WLT (Weight Loss Thread)-wise, I went on a pretty long run through my parents property. My brother''s dog kept me company most of the way. But at the end he decided he wasn''t going to run anymore and just walked behind me. I gave him a nice yummy pork chew as a reward since he was the only dog not lazy and kept me company.

Other than that, did a lot of eating when I was home.

Me coming home becomes a sorta special event and everyone invites everyone over for dinner. Thursday we went over to one aunt''s house, Friday another aunt had everyone over, and Saturday my parents had everyone over. Sunday I went out to dinner with my brother to have a heart to heart talk with him about how he''s doing etc. So it was pretty nice.

Wanted to add, OMG, thanks for offering your help. Forgive my ignorance, but what help do nutritionist give weight loss people? Do you guys help with meal suggestions or healthier substitutes for types of unhealthy foods?

Well first of all I can offer assistance in many ways - not just food related as I have been through the weight loss process myself. I can help with many different things such as: food choices, menu planning, counseling, and just basic healthy food knowledge.

I can’t say there are many ways to actually "get in" veggies without having to eat them ha-h, however, there are plenty of ways to eat veggies depending on the ones you like. Cauliflower for example: it can be mashed with milk and turns into a mashed potato flavor with a great consistency. Grilling veggies is a great way to bring out the taste. Also, a lot of people don’t think to season veggies, a little half salt (to get in potassium) some pepper and oregano really makes them taste lovely. I could probably go on forever though! Also, make sure you are choosing dark leafy veggies - as these have the most nutrients.

Couple more suggestions - that can help you get on track.

Eat 5 small meals a day - break them up within 2 1/2 hour intervals. Always eat breakfast... then a snack, then lunch, then another snack and finally dinner. This will have your metabolism roaring, which aids weight loss. Also, all women & men should be taking a good multi vitamin and fish oils (omega 3,6 &9)

I hope I can be of some sort of help - I have tons of tricks etc - so if your curious about something just ask.

Wow, it''s going to be great to have a nutritionist to help us out. :) Thanks OMG!!!! You''re really great!

I wonder if carrots get a bad rap. I read some books about the Zone diet and they said to avoid carrots. Any reason why?

The zone diet is one of those FAD diets (low to no carbs). I dont know about every single nuritionst out there but I dont agree with it. Carrots are perfectly fine to eat in moderation - 4 or 5 baby carrots is just fine to have.. Although carrots are high in sugar content( this is why many low to no carb diets say to avoid them), so I wouldnt recommend them to everyone. I think it just depends on how fast one wants to lose weight. Portion sizing is key as well, one who is just starting out should even measure out there veggie intake... this will keep you on track.

I am doing pretty well so far and I''m almost down to my goal weight! I have always been around 128-132lbs, but my last yr of college I gained a lot of weight and in April I weighed 154 lb.

I am now down to 134. :)

I ran 6.5 miles yesterday on the treadmill (training for a 1/2 marathon on Nov 23) and I worked out with my trainer.

The hard part for me is food. I am a pharmacist and I barely get time to eat, so I tend to eat one large meal, or some snacks throughout the day.
I have off all day tomorrow and I am going to purchase health food to eat in evenly spaced intervals throughout the day. (celery and peanut butter, yogurt, grapefruit cups in extra light syrup, 100 cal snack packs, etc).

I am going to make time at work to eat no matter what so that it will help "keep me going" and also serve to speed up my metabolism.

My downfall right now is soda. When I work 14 hr days, sometimes I need that "bubbly pick-me-up." I drink diet as much as I can, but I know none of it is good for me. Its going to be a process though to quit completely...

OMG thank you for the suggestions! Well..I don''t get enough veggies at all. I am lucky to get any.

Sigh. I have to change my eating habits..I don''t eat enough to be honest..it''s just so frustrating.

Sorry for being a debbie downer! Tomorrow I am hoping we can pop by the store and pick up a nice salad or something.

Laura I do what you do..one large meal w/ snacks. It''s reall bad, right? I also

soda. I''ve got myself mostly onto diet..but I am trying to replace the sodas with water. Let''s do it together!

Sarah, maybe you can switch to something like iced tea and then work more water into your daily routine. Just a thought, I can imagine it''d be hard to go from soda to straight water. My brother was a big soda drinker, but we started making a lot of iced green tea (with flavorings like mint, orange zest, lemon, peach, whatever we had) and he cut back on the soda big time.

My big downfall is drinking. I weigh more now than I ever have. I think it''s because I drink more than I ever have. All my friends drink socially. I''m trying to get into better habits but it''s kinda hard when our standard way to get together is to go out for drinks.

Ok! yay! Lets do it!!! At work I notice that its really dry or something b/c I get instantly thursty when I walk in the door. I am going to bring my big nalgene filled with water and a couple lemon slices to drink throughout the day. I will let myself splurge on 1 diet coke can/day, and hopefully taper from there.

Side note - I really don''t want to go to the gym tonight b/c its a little chilly out and I''d rather watch the office and drink a warm cup of camomile tea. I do have an appt w/ my personal trainer so I have to go to that, but I dont want to run afterwards. I am going to make myself do 4 miles though on the treadmill. I know I will feel good after I do it.

Laura,

Hope you made it to the gym. I haven''t gone yet. During the summer I used to run and bike outside, but it''s gotten colder and I''ve been less inclined to run out in the cold. I''m thinking I should restart my gym membership.

Tonight FI and I should be hitting some Halloween parties. I''m going to try to not drink tonight. I remember back in the day when I used to barely drink at all. I''m going to try to turn an "old leaf" (as my friend used to say) and stem the drinking.
