I am in the process of buying a diamond. I saw one, at a local jeweler, that I really liked but have no idea in evaluating the cut. The diamond specs are as follows...

gia cert
carat: 1.87
cut: ideal
color: f
clarity: vvs1
depth: 59.6%
table: 59%
polish: excellent
symmetry: excellent
culet: no

The asking price is $20K. Because GIA does not give crown and pavilion angles, I cannot use the HCA. Any opinion on this diamond would be appreciated.

Hi Drock,

Price sounds reasonable.

Re: ideal cut. Just FYI, 59% table is larger than AGS-ideal. However, this diamond has a good chance to be a great cut because it is not too deep.

What are the measurements and girdle?

How do YOU like it?

Sorry, but I wrote the wrong polish and symmetry. Here are the correct specs...

gia cert
carat: 1.87
measurement: 8.12-8.19mm x 4.86mm
cut: ideal
color: f
clarity: vvs1
depth: 59.6%
table: 59%
girdle: very thin - medium
polish: excellent
symmetry: good
culet: no

Request the angles.
The GIA will supply the info to the owner on request.
Ask for a sarin report to be done.
Ask for it to be shipped to an appraiser like Dave Atlas who can do all these things and more.
