I got the ring and am kind of freaking out. In the magnified images, you can see that the steps are not quite parallel. However, when I had it sent to an independent appraiser last week, both he and I did not think we could tell in person that the lines were not parallel. Now that it's been set, however, I feel like I can tell that the steps are not in line! The problem is, I don't know if it's just my mind playing tricks on me or not. I wish I could take pics for everyone, but unfortunately, do not have a digital camera.
I really want the ring to be perfect before I propose. I have a 10-day return period. Not sure what I'm going to do... Ugh.
It''s really amazingly gorgeous!!!! Perfectly simple setting, and lovely prongs. One of the most classic rings I''ve ever seen.
As far as the steps go, do you think you''d obsess about it constantly? Do you think your fiance would even notice? If it''s something that would legitimately drive you nuts (and is not just a product of your nerves from your upcoming proposal), you always have the trade up policy and the return policy.
Searching for step cuts is quite difficult, and if you think the diamond is beautiful, and you don''t think it will drive either of you to insanity, I would wait and hang onto it.
But, if it''s all you can see when you look at it, perhaps you should look for another. I know I sure wouldn''t, though!
Oh my... That stone has LOTS of personality!! Love that!! I''m no expert on Emerald cuts, but some wise pricescoper has on their signature a saying that goes something like this... "it''s harder to find a MIND clean stone than an EYE clean stone." Since you know that something is off - you''re looking for it. I would advise you not to tell your soon to be fiance unless she asks because she probably won''t notice ANYTHING! In this case, I truly believe ignorance can be bliss. Good luck! It really is beautiful.
She said yes! And she loves the ring. Thank you to everyone who talked me down from my initial panic. When the ring''s on her finger, the asymmetry doesn''t seem to be visible at all. And wow--the ring really has fire. Should have some hand shots upcoming.
Awesome ring. I have a soft spot for ECs and you have a nice large one with fire. That is even better. As for the slight quirk in the cut, it is just a quirk in the cut. She''ll love that stone because it is hers and you gave it to her, and besides, quirk or not, that is a beautiful rock.
Blackpaw, I decided that I was overreacting to the steps. That feeling was affirmed when I gave her the ring and she loved it. And with the ring on her finger, I can''t even notice that the steps are not perfectly in line. I''m very happy that I decided to stick with it.
i cant imagine anyone not loving it! i think when you go through the exhaustive search for a stone you''re bound to magnify every little detail...what is it they say about ''mind'' clean stones
