Hello Everyone,

Have been shopping for an e-ring the past few months and have gained a lot of insight from this forum. I am deciding between a 1.55ct round cut, F color, SI2 with medium blue fluorescence (GIA) and a 1.50ct, G color, SI2 with no fluorescence for roughly $500 more. Both diamonds are excellent cut. Under normal indoor/outdoor lighting conditions how easy is it to detect medium blue fluorescence in a diamond? My girlfriend would likely be fine with a barely detectable hint of blue but anything more than that may be a dealbreaker. Any insight you all could provide would be a great help.

Can't tell under normal indoor lighting.

Only noticeable outside if you are really looking for it.

But check each stone individually to be sure.

I had an F color diamond for 30 years with medium blue and never even knew it until I was considering resetting the diamond and the jeweler mentioned it. So no, it would be unusual for anyone to ever see it unless you go to night clubs with black lights! I have a G with strong blue now and there are no issues at all.

Look at the stone in bright sunlight before you make a decision. I had a 1.33 H-I SI1 pear with medium blue flor. that always looked very slightly milky and a little yellowish in the sun. I've read that a H-I-J color paired with medium blue flor can make the stone appear whiter but that wasn't the case with my diamond.

The eRing was stolen [:(] but recently replaced with a 1.5 G SI2 round brilliant with no flor. The new diamond is definitely white with no absolutely no trace of milkiness or yellow. It cost a few hundred more than other stones I considered, but as my sweet husband said, we won't miss that extra amount over the course of a lifetime.

Either way, the stones you're considering are both beautiful choices. And whatever you do, get it insured before it leaves the jeweler!

Mrg1 - I was hoping you could post a picture of your ring? I just got engaged and my ring was custom from Levine Designs as well and I would love to see what your ring looks like. =)

Thank you all for your input. I just ordered the 1.55 with the medium blue fluor. I'm hoping it turns out to be a beautiful stone!
