Since people love mahenges so much, I decided to open a topic on this one. I had the stone loose in my collection for four years, and finally got around to setting it. It has an AIGS gem brief.

It's very crystal, but the fluorescence makes it appear cloudy in the sun.

Here's the gem brief from 2010. It's been in my collection a while.

I'm pretty typical with my halo rings, so I decided to do something a little different and get an antique inspired setting for it.

I love it! Such a beautiful setting too.

That is very gaze-worthy, TL! Does it often flash part pink and part red as in the photos?

Thanks Athena, I love your taste, so I appreciate your comment very much.

Thank you Ephsea,
It's actually more red than the photos show, so I think that's what you're seeing, is the camera is trying to bring out the red in the sparkle portion of the stone. The AIGS memo deemed it pinkish red (see above), so it looks more red in the sun and in person. I'm getting a new camera this week, so maybe that will help.

I like it. Do you mind also showing the more crystal side of the spinel too?

Thanks Chrono,
This photo in particular, shows the more crystal side to it, but as its reddish, its hard to photograph that aspect.

I took the above pic with an older camera.

I'll wait to get my new camera to take more pics.

When are you expecting to receive your new camera? That picture is awfully fuzzy, similar to my poor attempts.

Maybe today. :naughty:

TL - it's a beautiful stone and a beautiful setting! I hope you get a chance to take more pics!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

TL

That is such a lovely ring. I like the sparkle of the band but the spinel is the focus.

Bother. I have a beautiful mahenge on loupe troup but I've been thinking and thinking of keeping it... problem is I just ordered a little ruby from Gene and have a handful of other stones that just sit around in my drawer. I used to bring them out more often but I'm a tad worried the dog will grab them and buh-bye gems. (He has a bad habit of laying his head on the desk/ table/counter and sliding it along to grab things he wants to check out. I'm working on training!!!)

Anyway, thanks for starting the thread. I may be inspired, anew, to set the mahenge rather than sell it! :naughty:

Beautiful stone and setting.

Yummy! I love the color! I'd love to have one!

Endless_summer, MelodySaw and Sapphirecarats,
Thank you.

Wordie,
Thank you and you should keep your mahenge. They're getting harder and harder to come by.

Chrono,
Got my new camera today, but its charging.

A shot with my new camera for Chrono.

Here's a shot of two of my mahenges in the sun with the new camera before I figured out the up close shooting.

Very nice ring! Unique too. I don't think I've seen a setting like that before.

TL that new camera made a huge difference - bravo! Gorgeous spinels, and I like the vintage style setting a lot!

Thank you IK, and Cellentani, nice to see you again. Thank you both for the kind words. There are many beautiful mahenges here, so I thought I'd post just to add to the myriad of them. It's good to see lots of examples of these beautiful gems from all PS'ers. :appl:

Beautiful gem and ring! I don't think I have ever found a stone so captivating as a Mahenge spinel and yours has the color I love the most. That fresh, feminine pink/red that just glows. Well done.

Gorgeous!! :appl:

I love it!

LisaRN, NKOTB, Pregcurious, thank you.

Love it. I can imagine this has lots of personality in terms of colour differences as the light bounces around it.

Gorgeous color, I'm starting to think I need one of these. :cheeky:

Gosh TL, that is really lovely.

Congrats on both the ring and the new camera!

Just reiterating what everyone else is saying... it's a stunner TL. So pleased to see the new camera pics - wow - does this mean you are going to have a humungous photo (re)shoot

Love the setting too - a bit of a departure for you - but lovely, suits the gorgeous spinel.

Thank you LD, Ilander, VL, and Starzin.

The new camera is fun. Thanks.

I think you need to do a photo shoot of ALL of your bling with your new camera!

LOL, thanks Athena. My husband already thinks I'm nuts for taking a million pictures of my rings on my hand.

Nice! Are those the silky outdoor pictures or the clear indoor pictures? Just trying to set a frame of reference.
