been searching around and i saw a ring at a local store where the band measure 1.4mm about 3/4 of the way around (bottom side). is this too thin? it is a platinum. it''s already made and can be resized. would it be possible to build up the part that is 1.4mm so that is a little thicker? thank you for your advice.

wondering what the pros and cons are of a band that is 1.44mm (3/4 of the way around on the bottom). i usually see 2mm bands so any advice would be very welcom.

In my opinion 1.4 is too thin. there is a reason most designers try to stay at or above 2mm. i have no idea if extra metal can be added to the bottom but I don''t see what not?

Some of this depends on the width of the wearer''s fingers. In my opinion, if the ring is a close enough fit that it does not spin or slide, a thin band can dig into your finger, creating a narrow pressure point area. A wider band distributes the pressure over a larger area for a more comfortable feel. On the other hand, though, thin bands that are a bit loose allow high, prong-set diamonds to easily rock back and tip over into your finger. I actually have a scar from where my diamond would rock back against my finger and the prong would rub my skin raw if I was putting on gloves, catching the prongs of the diamond on passing fabric, etc. And that''s a 2 mm band. I find a 3 mm most comfortable.

Also, is there pave or engraving or other work in the band? When I''ve tried on, for example, thin micro pave bands, it seems like they''re itchy (maybe it''s the rocking effect I described above that lets the pave surface contact my finger).

I''m guess it would be difficult to double the width of the existing band to make it more comfortable. Can you buy the diamond and a different setting, if you''re working with a local jeweler?
