Hello.

I am trying to decide between a blue nile stone and a debeers forever mark stone.

This is the bn stone.
I have it in person and really like it.
1.30 G VS1 x x x no fluorescence
56 table
62 depth
34.5 crown angle
40.8 pavilion angle
slightly thick faceted 3.5%
Good HCA score <2
I can't see the cloud unless I look under the microscope and tilt it at certain angles.
Here it is:

I have my setting already picked out. It is a solitaire in platinum.

The jeweler is trying to get me to go to a similar stone but from DeBeers Forever Mark.
The total price of the bn stone and ring is similar to the debeers stone and ring.

I am trying to understand if these debeers forever mark diamonds are a big marketing tool or are they actually superior?

The proportions look really good. Will they provide an ideal scope image?

Ok, I saw the DeBeers Diamond today.

I honestly could not tell which I liked better.

BN Stone
1.30 G VS1 x x x no fluorescence
56 table
62 depth
34.5 crown angle
40.8 pavilion angle
slightly thick faceted 3.5%

Debeers Forever Stone
1.30 G VS1 xxx no fluorescence
55.6 table
61.9 depth
35.5 crown angle
41.1 pavilion angle
thin to medium girdle 1.1%

I know the Blue Nile scores better on the HCA.

Price Wise, I am actually about 250 lower buying the Debeers stone and the setting from the jeweler.

What do you guys think?

I could not visually tell the difference.

Assuming that DeBeers can't offer you ideal scope images either, then I would be more comfortable purchasing the BN stone. It's proportions lean more toward the type of stone that many of the cut nuts here recommend. That isn't to say that the DeBeers stone isn't beautiful, it's just that with limited information and therefore choosing based on numbers alone, I prefer the BN. You, however have had the opportunity to view it in person and ultimately your eyes are the best judge of it's beauty. Perhaps considering the add ons that each vendor offers can help you make a decision? Does one offer a better up grade, trade in. buy back program than another? How about a return period? Lifetime warranty? What about the fact that you would have to pay taxes if you purchased from the local vendor?

The Debeers stone is from a B&M shop so there are benefits there.

I am concerned with the thin girdle and crown and pavilion angles as well.
I can't really visually tell the difference and the jeweler obviously wants me to buy the stone & setting from him not just setting.

I think that the girdle percentage on that stone is incorrect. A thin to medium girdle should be around 3-4%. Can you double check with the vendor?

EDIT: actually I may be incorrect on that, let me do some research. But 1.1% definitely doesn't sound right. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more insight.

It is listed at 1.1% on the report. See pictures above.

I'm hoping that someone with more experience will chime in, but if you don't get more insight, I would start another thread asking about the girdle specifically.

Ok, I am leaning towards staying with the blue nile stone I have.

I feel like the cut is better.

I am just not very familiar with these debeers forever diamonds.
It seems like a marketing ploy.

forever mark stones aren't cut well enough if you are looking for top quality. I had viewed quite a number and they all for short except for marking up prices to their brand name.

Aren't most forevermark stones AGS0? The two I saw were AGS0.

They usually exist with very good or excellent cut standard. It's more of a gimmicky marketing measure to "mark" the diamonds on the table facet to make them "stand out" from other brands of diamonds.
