I am currently overwhelmed with making the decision between a 1.21 and 1.5 ct princess cut diamond. I am a 25 year old male and my SO is a 25 yr old female. I had saved over 8500 for the ring and would only be going over budget by 300 to buy the 1.5 ct. That being said I would like to be able to have some extra money lying around as opposed to going over by 300.

Is a 1.21ct I VS1 an acceptable stone now adays? My parents are wealthy but have never been big diamond people (typically more into watches) and can not understand why I would make the jump to the 1.5 ct I SI1.

My SO has a ring 4.75 ring size and the diamond would be solitaire.

Any advice?

Thanks

Hi overlyconfused

Yes, I VS1 if graded by GIA or AGS is perfectly respectable, as for size you could certainly go larger to I SI1 if the stone is verified eyeclean.

Have you seen these diamonds in person or are they online?

A well cut 1.2c is large for that ring size, but that depends on the actual cut of the stone. Weight does not automatically translate into larger face up dimensions.

I have seen both stones in person at a trusted local jeweler. Both are cut amazingly well, and I believe on her finger a 1.21 will look relatively large. Just cant determine if i would have buyers remorse if I go with the 1.21.

Ok, we would need a lot more info on these diamonds to get an idea of the cut quality which is difficult if these are in a store as we don''t have images. Can you post all the info that you do have from the grading reports such as the depth and table, polish and symmetry, girdle thickness and the diameter please? This won''t prove the cut quality of each but would give a bit more info.
