Dear PSers,

I’m on the hunt for a pair of diamonds from online vendors to set as stud earrings. My husband wants to buy them as a belated birthday gift since we could not celebrate this year. In general, I’m looking for round brilliant stones in the 1.2-1.24 tcw range, H/I color to match my engagement ring stones, excellent or ideal cut, in the VS2 range. I know with earrings many PSers will dip into the SI1 clarity range but I’m a little hesitant to do so since I cannot view them in person.

Obviously price points of paired stones are variable depending on vendor, how well matched the stones are for dimensions, cut and certification but was wondering what a “fair” price range for the above specs is. I’ve seen as low as the $2500-3000 range for paired I stones (James Allen) whereas paired H stones are running in the $2900-4000 (Blue Nile) up to 4500 (WhiteFlash) range.

I would prefer to spend more for better quality stones as I plan to have the studs for a long time with daily wear. Would love to hear what PSers have spent or would consider spending for similar stone pairs.

Thank you!
Coco

I love my ACA studs from Whiteflash! I’ve purchased from WF before and I’m always happy with my purchases.

I’ve also heard great things from Brian Gavin and of course hp diamonds. Those vendors will have excellent quality.

I know other PS’ers have purchased studs from IDJ and are also very pleased with their purchases. I have not worked with IDJ yet. Hopefully someday. I’ve said this before, but I had Blue Nile studs and my much smaller ACA studs blow them away! My BN studs did not hold their own. GL!

On a random note, does anyone have feelings about diamond stud earrings being in proportion to engagement and/or wedding rings?

I have been looking in the 1.20-1.24 tcw range as the center stone in my engagement ring is 1.3 ct. Totally arbitrary but I felt these studs would be nicely proportioned and not appear massive in contrast to my wedding set.

I did however come across stones totaling 1.4 tcw I/VS2 that caught my eye and are at a good price point. Would this be too unbalanced (I have small earlobes)?

good post! my whiteflash 1.28 tcw ACA earrings are SUPER-nice. both are K color (and yet still look VERY white in their platinum 4-prong basket settings due to their truly exceptional cut). one is a VS2 and the other is a completely eye-clean SI1. i paid $2,800 for the stones, plus another $295 for the platinum settings. plus the peeps at whiteflash (thanks again @Vera W and brittney!) were wonderful to do business with.

Thanks, @Vera W! I just did my first (slight ) upgrade with Brittany today. I'm moving up to ACA 1.40 tcw earrings ( but staying with the K color). VERY excited to see 'em.
