There are no apartments listed for $1m in our area of Manhattan (SoHo). I imagine that amount would get you a one-bed in a nice condo, and two-bed in a less ritzy building.

Hmm...Well I rent in a 4 unit building in San Francisco. The 4 unit building next door just sold 1 itty-bitty unit for $1.5 million. I''m sorry, I love San Francisco, but not enough to buy a unit (not even property!) for that much money...blows me away. Oh well to each his/her own. :/

in my zip code, it can get you this-

Yikes--that big house is on a teensy tiny lot! (7975 sq. ft.)
I can''t believe they were allowed to build such a big structure in such a small space.

Actually, that is a huge amount of land here. lol. Staten Island is one of the five boroughs of NYC, so there is not much land left to build.

I didn''t realize that was on Staten Island, that makes more sense!

This is what you get in my area of northern VA - a nice, but not ridiculous, 5 bed 4.5 bath:

Ooooh. Thanks for this link! I was able to snoop & check out a house my sister is considering in Arlington. She drove me by the outside but I had to guess about price -- now I know ...

Tell me about it - and you can get a lot less in Arlington for $1mil than you can in Reston - we''re about 10 miles away. I know because we were living in Arlington (renting) when I got pregnant, and then when we went house shopping, we decided that we couldn''t afford anything that we both liked unless we moved to Reston. I would have loved one of the new luxury townhouses in Arlington, but DH insisted on single-family - so here we are. The only single-families we saw in Arlington in our price range generally only had 1.5 baths, street parking, and no basement. DH just needed a basement and a garage, and I sure as heck didn''t want to have to share a bathroom when company came to town

Nothing ocean front, that is for sure, but perhaps something with a water view:

And my town is mid-range for the area!

In a more affluent nieghboring town:

And a few towns over (where security and schools are somewhat troubling):

Oh wow! That''s just..dang! That would be like, $80,000 here. Haha we should have a thread on the most bang for your buck homes! What can you find for under $75,000!

Ha,ha, and there''s not even a place to park your car! You have to park in the walkway!

I am not a fan of SF homes or living in SF (too cold, brrr I am an inland girl)... but that is a beautiful home and honestly I would pay $950k for that over half of what passes for $950k over in SJ! Love the little courtyard.

It''ll get you about a 2000 sq ft fixer upper on an 8000-9000 sq foot lot in my neighbourhood... Some of the houses posted are insane! I love to see what a certain pricepoint buys in different places.

Did you see these Mara? our GPS sent us on this street while we were out thre; I guess it was rush hour so it was a detour which was fine by me because it was pretty to see. I love the big trees in this neighborhood; we have similar on my street. I do love San Francisco though, gorgeous house Swingirl & lovesvintage.

I think these are wonderful. Built in the 30's. They are unique to the Sunset District, SF.
