Hi Everyone,

- I'm after 0.7 carat single cut diamond with GIA certificate. How do I find them?

- What do you think of its performance vs full / modern cut diamond?

There isn't any such thing. You won't be able to find one that large.

Re: 0.7 carat Single Cut Diamond. How to find and Your thoug

Can you tell us why you are interested in a stone like this? Single cuts are not made in large sizes so you are mistaken about the make of your friend's ring. Perhaps it is an old cut of some sort. Share with us a little more about your reasons for wanting a diamond like this and maybe we can help you (e.g. cost, antiquity, appearance)

And even if you could, the performance wouldn't compare. If you like the look of larger facets, look at some stones such as antique cushions or August Vintage cushions at Good Old Gold.

the reason is the diamond that i saw was simple to look at when you view them from its table. it's doesn't have much lines going to the center of the diamond.
i'm pretty sure this is single cut diamond because it has bold light reflection vs smaller light reflections

Re: 0.7 carat Single Cut Diamond. How to find and Your thoug

We are telling you that single cuts are not cut in the large size you have seen, so it must be another style of cut. Single cuts are used for melee, meaning very small diamonds of the type used in halos or pave. They are *not* used as solitaires. So you must have seen a different type of cut diamond. If you can get a photo of what you saw we can help you.

eta: Given your description of what you liked I think you might like a chunky cushion or even an emerald cut or Asscher.

Re: 0.7 carat Single Cut Diamond. How to find and Your thoug

Yes. We know the difference. I have owned single cuts.

That cut is ONLY used for melee stones. Melee stones are 2 point diamonds or under, generally, and used in watches for the most part. You may find a 5 point single cut. But that's as big as you are going to get. They do not have enough facets to look good in a 70 point size like you want. That's why no one cuts one. You are wrong. I understand that you THINK you are right, but you aren't.

Get some pictures of your friend's diamond and post them. We will find you a similar stone.

The closest you are going to get to a large single cut diamond is a rose cut.

Re: 0.7 carat Single Cut Diamond. How to find and Your thoug

this is from the link that you posted about single cut stone on your old thread and let me just copy and paste what that link you posted said.

What are Single Cuts used for?

Single Cuts are used as side stones, accent stones, or just small Diamonds that are set in Jewelry to give it some Pizzazz and Sparkle.

When you have a Diamond that’s 10 points or smaller, putting the normal 58 Facets on them aren’t really necessary. 16 Facets will do.

so you can't find a 0.7 ct single cut.

Old European Cut.

How does the light performance compare to round brilliant?

James Allen & Blue nile doesn't sell them.

do you know where i can get them ?

Re: 0.7 carat Single Cut Diamond. How to find and Your thoug

If you didn't like the one Kenny posted then you can only get them as true antiques.

Look on Langs Antiques, Jewels by Erica Grace, Old World Diamonds, Ruby Lane (search for the term "european diamond" and "Mine Diamond").

The Old European you linked to is a very old one. It has the look of a round Mine Brilliant, actually and that's why I called it that. So you can search for either European Diamond and Mine Diamond. There are many different Old European Cut looks (like the one I linked to before: http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/Loose-Diamonds/179-Loose-Old-European-Cut/18854170_9z8hK5#1461213945_3QgtVXJ) you want a true old cut-- whether it is labelled mine or european.

On the PLUS side: you can get a larger stone for your budget. Bad News: Finding one that is in higher color is very hard. So you will usually find them in J-M colors.

Light performance doesn't compare. And it isn't fair to compare them. These are diamonds cut before modern diamond cutting tools. They are cut for candlelight and for beauty, but it's a different standard of beauty than the Round Brilliant with ideal light return.

Unless you go for one like the one Kenny Posted. Which is a NEWLY CUT diamond with old cut faceting, though it is much closer to a Transitional Diamond than to an Old Mine.

The light performance available today in the best cuts was not happening back when old mine cuts were made.
It's like expecting to find a hybrid model of an old Ford Model T.

I still love the antique cuts, but don't expect today's high ratio of light return, brightness, scintillation and fire.

If you want the best of both worlds consider the brand I posted "August Vintage Round" from www.goodoldgold.com

I believe they are the only diamond seller today cutting the old look with the optics for top light performance.

Thank you everyone. I will keep looking.

Re: 0.7 carat Single Cut Diamond. How to find and Your thoug

WakingDreams has a giant single cut. She said 0.5ct in the other thread - I've seen it, it's definitely a single cut and it's lovely! Very unusual, but very pretty.

So yes, they *can* be found in large sizes, apparently. But I'm guessing that's going to be no easy or quick task - maybe contact one of the vendors who does specialty work like GOG to see what they can do?
