Art Deco was born in 1925 when the L’Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) opened in Paris. Grand changes occurred in architecture, fine arts, advertising, and industrial design throughout what is known as the Deco period, which lasted until the beginning of World War II in 1939. Women had a sense of freedom when it came to the way they dressed. So much so that their sense of style and fashion had a major influence on the type of jewelry that was designed during that era.

The current comeback of Art Deco styles is only one of many such occurrences; comparable revivals occurred in the 1960s and 1980s. Art Deco jewelry may be considered to come and go in popularity, yet its aesthetic inclinations are constantly and permanently reborn as an era.

Art Deco jewelry is known for its dramatic combinations that play with shape and color. Pieces with movement, white metals (specifically platinum and white gold), filigree as well as geometric motifs. A variety of brightly colored stones such as rubies, sapphires, and emeralds were often used as well as classic pearls. Art Deco jewelry is known for its mystic and invisible setting where you can barely see the metal.
