On October 5, two fancy vivid colored diamonds sold for record prices at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Sale in Hong Kong. The top lot sold, a 6.01 carat fancy vivid blue cushion cut diamond ring, garnered $10.1 million and set a world record price per carat for any fancy vivid blue diamond. A particularly rare 4.19 carat fancy vivid orange diamond ring set a world record price of $2.96 million, which is the highest price for any fancy vivid orange diamond sold at auction.
The sale achieved a total of $65.4 million, though the featured top lot, a 9.27 carat fancy vivid pink diamond, did not sell.
This 6.01 carat fancy vivid blue and pink diamond ring sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong for $10.1 million, ($1.68 million per carat) a world record price per carat for any fancy vivid blue diamond sold at auction. The vivid blue cushion cut diamond is flanked by oval cut pink diamonds weighing .46ct and .44ct.
This 4.19 fancy vivid orange diamond ring sold for a world record price of $2.96 million. (approximately $700,000 per carat) The cushion cut orange diamond is set in an 18k white gold diamond ring.
