Hi gem lovers!
I have posted this ring in the antique section, mainly to find out about from when it might date. I always thought - but didn’t know for sure - that the center was zircon. The sides are diamonds, the setting platinum, this is verified. But after posting it and getting some replies, I’m not so sure about the center anymore. It’s at the jeweller at the moment for resizing and I’ll call and ask. But then, I thought I ask here as well, as most jewellers are not so familiar with zircon and such.
Curious of what you experts think!

Looks like zircon to me because there are more abrasions on the crown. Don’t know how old this ring is but natural blue topaz is uncommon in this colour

Thank you - yes, there are quite a few abrasions. I don’t think it’s glass, but not sure...

Reminds me of London Blue Topaz. I should probably quantify that: I don't see any double refraction It has a waxy look which some topaz of a certain age can have. to me, zircon isn't waxy.

I could be wrong, could be zirocon, could be glass. But topaz is my best guess.

The wear and tear screams Zircon but the colour screams topaz so I don't know. Are you able to see whether it has double refraction?

How can I see if it has double refraction? Is there a way to do that? Thank you!

Double refraction looks like this. Does any of your facets look like they're doubled?

I only have the photos at the moment, since the piece is at the jeweller. From the photos it’s hard to tell. I’ll have to check when it comes back.

My guess is Blue Zircon....

Its a very pretty ring and looks great on your hand.

Mystery solved... I got it back resized today and they had the stone checked by a gemologist. It’s a natural zircon. C3AEFA63-722D-4E4D-A8AB-708B646B294B.jpeg

Its a real beauty
Lovelly colour

Thank you so much! Now I can finally wear her. Bought it a time ago at an antique market, was too big, but loved it. First jeweller told me, that it’s not possible to resize it. So it just sat in the box. I then went to my trusted jeweller and he could do it with a special method. No it’s perfect! Happy!
