Your thoughts on a 2.04 round diamond

The information from the report look promising. BN can't provide you with more information than you just posted though, so unfortunately it's impossible to get an IS or to say if the stone is eye clean. SI1's are generally fairly safe, but the larger the ct weight, the larger the allowable inclusions when graded. They have a good return policy though if you don't mind paying the cost of returning the stone if you are not satisfied.

It could be ok. They don't have pictures or ideal scopes which would help you make an informed online purchase...but if you're set on BN then it's up to you. I would make 100% sure it's eye clean though.

Stone seems to be good, but bluenile does not provide the images and neither will they pay for return shipping of you don't like the stone.

Most of the famous Pricescope vendors do not pay for return shipping - it's a myth that they do. Look at Brian Gavin's website, look at Whiteflash's website - they do not pay for return shipping either and it's industry standard not to do so.

It also isn't true that Blue Nile can't you tell if it's eyeclean. I have just gone through this process with Blue Nile when upgrading my diamond studs. I chose Ideal cut SI2s and they consulted the vault to let me know if they were eyeclean or not. They were quick about it, and they also told me that the most expensive pair that I liked were not eyeclean, so they were truthful about it. Just call them and they'll get their vendor to tell them if it's eyeclean or not, and they'll let you know. Neither party gains from a returned stone, so it pays for them to be honest about this - as they were with me.

I've bought about 40 items from Blue Nile and have always been extremely happy with them. I've sent back and returned items, and it's always been very smooth.

I have just run the numbers through the Holloway Cut Advisor and it comes out at 1.7, therefore well below 2, which is the important thing.

Numbers:

Depth %: 61.6
Table: 58
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilion angle: 40.8
HCA score: 1.7

I have bought lots of diamonds from Blue Nile using only the Holloway Cut Advisor and the knowledge of the experts here, and it has turned out great. I wanted a Signature-line level of sparkle without paying the Signature premium. The Pricescope experts all said that the numbers in my stones - under 2 - looked great, and that any difference in sparkle was not something that would ever be seen by the naked eye.

I hope an expert chimes in here about these numbers. Personally, I'd think this diamond would be fine.

As I understand it BN will ask the dealer holding the stone whether or not it is eye clean. It's my opinion that the dealer wants to sell the stone so may be a bit lenient when determining the eye cleanliness in hopes that the buyer is satisfied. There is no risk to the dealer to send the stone out and hope that it doesn't come back...if it does, well then they can try again with the next interested party. Many times SI1's are a good value, but as I said before at this ct weight the allowable inclusions are larger when graded so I would take that into consideration. If I personally were to purchase a 2ct stone blind and wanted to be assured that it was eye clean then I would only consider VS2's and higher. I think it may be helpful for the OP if we define what eye clean is to most vendors, which is from approximately 8 inches in the face up position in natural day lighting, some even say eye clean is under these conditions but at first glance. It varies. If you have a different definition such as from 6-8 inches and from the side when studied for example, then it would be in your best interest to express this to BN and hope that they will share the information with the dealer who in turn will examine the stone under these conditions and give you an honest assessment.

HCA is only a weeding tool, it is not meant to be used as a selection tool. A score under 2 simply means that the stone is worth further investigating which typically would mean an idealscope image. Obviously that isn't possible in this situation. As I mentioned before, the numbers look good enough to warrant a further look so long as you don't mind footing the bill for the return if you aren't happy. It's true that some PS vendors don't offer free return shipping, but what they do offer that BN does not is a gemological assessment of the stone as well as reflector images to give you a better idea of how the stone will perform which eliminates much of the risk of making a disappointing purchase and incurring the cost of return shipping.

I personally would take the risk and view this stone in person, however I think it's important to point out that there is some risk involved. If it's a risk that you are uncomfortable taking then I would consider asking another vendor that can provide the additional information to call the stone in for you. ID Jewelry will do this for you and they also claim to be able to beat BN's price.

Blue Nile is such a large, well-known company that I don't think vendors would mess with them like that. If the vendor said something was eyeclean when it wasn't, it's Blue Nile that gets the customer pushback and then the vendor risks not being able to sell through Blue Nile - not what they want. I really feel as if a company like Blue Nile has its vendors under control. In addition, as described above I've actually been through the process recently and found them very truthful about whether a stone is eyeclean or not.

This begs the question of who DOES buy the non-eyeclean stones. How do they sell, if BN is so truthful about it? Answer: People who don't ask if they're eyeclean but just buy them from the site without calling BN. Most people just want to buy a diamond and back in the real, non-PS world, most people wouldn't notice or care if the diamond wasn't totally eyeclean, barring obvious huge black carbon spots, which a GIA Si2 wouldn't have anyway.

Basically, I've been a BN customer for years and have found them to be very trustworthy.

Last month I've bought regarding 25 items from Blue Nile and it all have always been extremely happy with them. I've sent back and returned items, and it's always been very smooth. I believe diamond is always good choice for everyone. Thanks.
