To those who celebrate: What are you having to eat for Thanksgiving? Will you be having the traditional turkey dinner? Spice things up a bit with a few 'odd' dishes? Or will you be preparing a completely different meal, turkey, stuffing and pumpkin-free?

We're doing mostly traditional with a few twists:

Herbed Turkey Breast (thanks Whole Foods!)
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole
Stuffing
Cranberry Sauce
Pumpkin Pie
Coconut Cream Pie (Vegan)

The vegan pie is for me since I can't eat the traditional pumpkin pie due to allergies. We visited a restaurant in town a few weeks ago that featured it, and decided to order one for Thanksgiving! And yes, it sounds gross, but even my husband loved it. It's surprisingly delicious.

So...what are you having?

Yay, I was hoping to see one of these threads! Great idea EB! :))

pumpkin soup
brie w/crackers

green beans
salad
mashed potatoes
ham
turkey
dinner rolls

pumpkin pie and apple pie

ps I wish homemade Tamales were on our Thanksgiving menu because I am seriously jonesing for some right now. hehe :))

My friends and I are having:

Roasted pheasant
Cranberry salad
Green bean casserole
Mashed butternut squash
Pecan pie

I can't wait!

For a few years we did Korean BBQ, but since having the kid, we go more traditional. I'll be looking for ideas because I can still add one more side dish or change out.

Deep Fried Turkey
Mashed Potatoes
Parmesan Roasted Turnips
Sauteed Brussel Sprouts with lemon and maybe butter
Stuffing
Gravy (bought)
Cranberry Sauce (bought)
Rhurbarb pie (bought)

ETA, doing ham too, although haven't bought it yet. Could change....we're only cooking for 5 adults!
ETA2 made a mistake, fixed it.

Mashed butternut squash is delicious, if you're looking for ideas. It's pretty easy, too!

I'm salivating over the menus so far :lickout:

Roasted Turkey
Stuffing
Garlic Mashed Potato w/ Turkey Gravy
Crescent rolls
Tossed green salad
Fruit Salad
Green Giant Corn in a cans(Thats the only canned corn I like) or Fresh asparagus sauteed in butter and herbs

oops Forgot deviled eggs was on the menu :lickout:

Pumpkin Pie
Banana Cream Pie

We are having at our house:

Turkey
Prime Rib
Ham
Cranberry sauce
Vegetable soup
Deviled eggs
Artichoke -Sausage Dressing
Creamy smashed potatoes & Turkey Gravy
Cornbread
Meatball & garlic bread
Baked mac & cheese
Fried shrimp rolls
Roasted vegetables & corns
Spiced sweet potatoes / yams
Spicy lemon pepper pasta salad
Chocolate cheesecake??

Everything will be made by me and my SIL, except the ham is from Honey Baked Ham and chocolate cheesecake, if that's what we end up getting.

We're having the usual:

turkey
parmesan mashed potatoes
stuffing (my mom makes the best and I can't wait to have some)
corn and/or green beans
cranberry sauce
pumpkin pie and maybe brownies

Then on Friday, we're going to my in-laws for turkey soup. To be honest, it's not my favorite because the noodles are mushy (which REALLY bugs me). My husband loves it though.

My menu is very basic, I'm only hosting for D's parents

Roasted turkey & gravy
Roasted sweet potatoes
Green bean casserole
Stuffing
Cranberry sauce
Popovers
Chocolate Pecan Pie

I'm the only one who likes mashed potatoes, so I've nixed them.

I'm not sure I know the entire menu... it's a pot luck.

Appetizers:
Assorted Cheeses and Breads and Crackers and Fruit
Shrimp Cocktail.

Main:
Turkey
Gravy
Stuffing
Cranberry Sauce
Brussel Sprouts
Twice Baked Potatos
Salad

Dessert:
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Ice Cream

Libations:
Wine and Sparkling Wine
Egg Nog and Rum.

YUM!

Smoked Turkey (I usually brine it, but this was a gift!)
Ham (I usually don't do both, but the turkey was small)
stuffing
mashed potatoes
gravy
green bean bundles
field green salad with granny smith apples, spiced pecans, blue cheese, and balsamic vinegarette
broccoli cheese casserole
cranberry sauce
rolls

pumpkin pie
chocolate mousse cheesecake

I served this for Thanksgiving this last Sunday (we had to have Thanksgiving early due to health issues):

fresh baked rosemarry dinner rolls (made from scratch Sunday morning)
26 pound turkey (rubbed with lots of herbs)
stuffing made from rosemarry dinner rolls (leftover from batch made Friday), homemade chicken broth, toasted almonds, and apples
gravy
roasted garlic mashed potatoes
sweet potatoes roasted then tossed with a bit of butter, lots of fresh ginger, lime juice, and a spoon of brown sugar then baked until caramalized
cranberry relish (raw cranberries chopped with orange juice and a touch of sugar)
cranberry sauce (fresh cranberries simmered in orange juice with a touch of sugar)
brussel sprouts (blanched with a handful of garlic cloves, sauteed until lightly brown, then splashed with lemon juice)
2 sweet potato pies (from scratch)
2 pumpkin pies (from scratch -- roasted pumpkin and all)
pecan pie (from scratch)

"But I would be proud to partake of your pecan pie."

We're having the traditional feast plus:
- Cauliflower sformato
- Brussels sprouts slaw, &
- Cranberry relish

However, my plan is to park myself in front of the mashed potatoes and eat until I burst.

Apps:
- chips and dip
- baked brie
- something mom is bringing

Dinner:
- stuffing
- turkey
- cranberry relish
- mashed potatoes
- sweet potato casserole
- green bean casserole
- succotash
- turnips
- gravy
- WINE

Dessert:
- pumpkin pie
- apple pie
- pecan pie
- ice cream
- whipped cream

Smoked turkey :lickout:

mashed potates and gravy

sweet potatoes

corn

stuffing

ham

bread

pumpkin pie

apple pie

seems like i am missing something...but the wine has taken effect and i cant think lol

I fed the whole family last year, but this year it's just the two of us.

Roast Turkey
Mashed Potatoes w/gravy
Homemade Bread Dressing (I'm famous for it)
Sauteed Brussel Sprouts
Whole Cranberry Sauce
Pecan Pie

I like the green bean casserole, but DH is merely okay with it, so we'll have his favorite Brussel sprouts. We got some nibble stuff for 'before turkey', but we don't want a lot of variety really. Just the traditional, it-wouldn't-be-Turkey Day-without, dishes.

Pork Tenderloin
Stuffing
Green Beans
Greek Olives
Candied Yams
Mac and Cheese (for DH because he's PICKY!)

I can't decide on dessert :( I don't like pie, DH only likes vanilla ice cream which Dad and I don't like (we don't do toppings)

Did I just hear a "When Harry Met Sally" reference?

Nothing unusual other than the ridiculous amount of dessert:

Turkey
Cranberry bread *
Pumpkin bread *
Green beans
Mashed potatoes *
Green salad
Sweet potatoes
Stuffing
Rolls
Cupcakes
Apple Pie*
Pumpkin Cake (Paula Deen, so to be fair, it's butter with some pumpkin)

* These are my charge this year. I plan on running home the 150 miles.

We are doing a dinner wednesday night at home and visiting family on Thurs.

Smoked Turkey (on our big green egg)
dressing with sausage
fresh cranberry sauce
mashed sweet potatoes with maple syrup and pecans
veggie casserole (green beans, corn, celery, onion, cheese, cream of celery soup and sour cream, with crushed ritz and butter on top)
potato casserole, cheesy goodness.
homemade rolls

pecan pie-homemade
pumkin pie-home made
pots de chocolat-home made

I boiled eggs for deviled eggs, but I will have to make those for tomorrow. Turkey will be done in 20 minutes. I'm exhausted.
I only make these high calorie casseroles once a year, but all my kids love it and ask for it, so whats a mom to do =)

"Dry-brined" free-range turkey (my first fresh free-range bird)

Mashed potatoes with cream cheese

Sauteed green beans (hub's does this one, probably with balsamic and garlic)

Spinach salad with some kind of toasted nut (pecans probably), cheese (romano probably) and white balsamic vinaigrette

Homemade cheesecake with choice of blackberry or apricot glaze

No dressing this year. Just don't feel like it for some reason. Weird.

it's just me & the hubby this year and it's my first year baking thanksgiving dinner (my fingers are crossed)

roasted turkey
red-skinned garlic mashed potatoes
corn casserole
pineapple casserole
fresh cranberry sauce
green salad (a recipe from MIL, we shall see if i can make it)
stove top stuffing :cheeky:
brown gravy
crescent rolls from the package

pecan-pumpkin pie
chocolate pudding pie

we're cooking now, so i thought i'd share. tonight we're tackling both pies, cranberry sauce, and green salad.
everyone's sounds delicious. i'm excited to cook my own but a little bummed it's just the two of us. i'm used to huge thanksgivings--my roommates & i used to host a neighborhood potluck thanksgiving at our house with about 30 people--then also go to DH's family celebration. but alas, this is our first year across the country from everyone.

Turkey
Mashed potatoes/gravy
biscuits (I think, and not real ones, store ones)
deviled eggs
pumpkin pie
green bean casserole
probably that weird cranberry stuff in a can that nobody but JD eats and he insists on wasting, I mean buying, every year
this crazy apple crisp/cake thing I found a recipe for.

I'm having friends over, and we will be having (all homemade!):

Curried Butternut Squash Soup
Brined, Roasted Turkey with Herbs (from the farm where I have a buying club membership)
Gravy
Rustic Mushroom and Sage Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Creamed Spinach
Sauteed Green Beans with Pine Nuts and Vinaigrette
Buttered Rolls
Cranberry Sauce
Pecan Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Eggnog

I did a lot of the work tonight, and am exhausted already!

Packrat -- I LOVE that "weird cranberry stuff in a can!" Last Thanksgiving, I made real cranberry sauce, and it didn't thicken well for some reason. It tasted pretty good but the consistency wasn't great. I had to break out the canned stuff (which I had as a backup) and that was a hit. Go figure.

luv2sparkle -- would you mind posting your recipe for potato casserole?

We're having a very small Turkey Day this year, just DH, Aidan, my SIL and me. So we're not doing a full bird or spread of sides. Our menu is:

Roast turkey breast
cornbread stuffin' muffins
sweet potato casserole (with marshmallows)
savory sweet potato gratin (like potatoes au gratin with SP instead)
green beans sauteed with shallots and bacon
cranberry sauce
gravy
apple pie and vanilla ice cream

I might make a very very small batch of mashed potatoes for myself, I'm not a huge fan of sweet potatoes, but DH and SIL love them.

Oh jeez, sweet potatoes too. Is that what yams are? JD eats that stuff too..has marshmallows on it or something.

No mean relatives coming over to feed wild game to and tell them it's beef.

I'm in Reno visiting my parents, and we just got the turkey in the oven. I think we're having 15 or 16 people over and everyone's bringing something.

Herb Roasted Turkey
Honey Glazed Ham
Gravy
Sausage and Mushroom Cornbread Stuffing
Shoepeg Corn Casserole with Roasted Green Chilies*
Maple Glazed Sweet Potato Casserole with Vanilla Glazed Walnuts and Toasted Marshmallows*
Green Bean Casserole
Mashed Potatoes
Cranberry Sauce
Rolls
Pies of assorted types
Ice cream

*I made these.

Turkey
Stuffing- the is a stuffing recipe that my mom has made for decades and now I make it for my family! It's beyond yummy!
peas
homemade pumpkin pie
gravy
mashed potatoes
cranberry sauce- DH only likes the cranberry sauce from the can, lol
rolls
