Howdy all! Thanks for all the help so far! I’d really like your opinions on this diamond I am considering in a private party sale…there are actually several very short videos that the seller provided which may help (or not?) with evaluating it. It’s an approx. 1.5 ct RB with “I” color. It is an I1 clarity yet may very well be eye-clean to my own standards (confirming). It has an HCA score of 1.0 (Ex/Ex/Ex/Ex) and is in the chart area of an AGS 0 “candidate”. Here are the specifics from the GIA report (dossier):

7.48 x 7.51 x 4.47 mm
Cut – Excellent
Symmetry – Excellent
Polish – Very Good
Clarity characteristics – Crystal, feather, cloud (you can see the feather in the “loupe” video; the main crystal is directly opposite the feather, mostly close to the edge and mostly off the table)
Fluorescence – None
Table 59%
Depth 59.6%
Crown angle 33
Pavilion angle 41
Girdle – Medium to slightly thick, faceted (3%)
Culet – none

What are y’all’s thoughts on the numbers? Also, more importantly how do you think it looks based on the short videos I posted in the links below? Can you tell much about its performance from the videos? Being a novice I have very little to compare it with. There are a variety of conditions depicted in the videos (lighting, mounted, unmounted, close-ups, a view through a loupe, etc.). The file names are somewhat indicative of the content.

I’d be very grateful for any thoughts and comments! Many thanks!

Links to videos; they are all short (hope the links work! :twirl: ):

I'm not very well versed in diamonds either, but for what it's worth, I think it looks very pretty!

Obviously, as you said, you'll want to make sure it's "eye clean" to your standards.

My diamond performs similarly, and I love it. I probably look at it 50 times a day.

Its impossible to tell from these videos , the loupe is all shaky , is it eye clean in your eyes ?
Does the cloud cause milkiness ? put it next to a high quality stone for a comparison .

Is the price spectacular vs a new stone with a smaller table?

Thanks for the replies vsp08, treasurehunter, and AprilBaby! To answer a couple of the questions:

I am working on the eye-cleanliness issue and I expect this to not be a problem.
The cloud does not seem cause milkiness.
I’m really not in a situation where I can compare it to other stones, but I can return it if it doesn’t meet my standards.
Yes, the price is good enough that I am strongly considering it instead of new stones.

I know some parts of the videos are shaky and have varying levels of focus, and there is also some pretty clear video. If we put the issue of “eye clean” aside, is it possible to make any judgments about light performance based on the videos? It seems pretty and “sparkly” to me :twirl: but I'm definitely a noob. Are the videos enough to maybe confirm its HCA score of 1.0 and confirm it is not a poor performer? Appreciate any additional comments! Thanks!

Videos are terrific after you own something but not very helpful in telling us cut. The GIA certificate numbers look okay. I can't see any inclusions looking face on from my computer but i don't know what I'd see in person.

It would be helpful to see an asset (which I am sure is impossible if buying from private seller. The numbers look okay. I guess now its up to you.

ASET is not good for rounds.

ASET if for fancies.

You want an idealscope for rounds.

Impossible to see anything from these videos except that the table is a little on the big side.

Thanks all. I guess I'll just have to decide whether to pull the trigger or not. I can return it if not satisfied so maybe I'll get it and take a look at it through an ideal-scope within the return period. Thanks all for your thoughts and comments!

In my opinion, if you think the stone is pretty and are okay with the fact that it is not an "ideal" cut stone, it may be worth it (value wise). My engagement ring is the first large diamond I've owned (1.42 carats), and since I haven't seen a lot of ideal cut diamonds, my diamond looks perfect to me (it is a GIA triple excellent).

Where I live, most people don't have triple excellent/ideal cut stones in this carat weight, so my diamond generally outshines others. I think you just have to determine whether you like the look of the diamond. Aside from the potential clarity issue, there doesn't seem to be anything of obvious concern based on the information you have provided.
