A coworker of mine, who is a COMPLETE newbie to diamonds (didn''t know what pave was, very nice smart guy though) is engaged to a lovely lady... who lacks a ring and has charged him with getting the ring of her dreams.

SO... we have a 7-7.5K budget for the WHOLE ring. Perferably in Platinum, but if not 18K WG.

.85- one carat ish diamond.

G-H color (I might work too)
SI1 or VS2 Eye clean.

Ideal cut. ROUND.

And here is the ''concept setting''

I''m already thinking prongs on the head instead of the cone thing. And I don''t know if we can avoid custom since there is the wave in the shank from the top... BUT lets see what you all can do.

I have three pics: Here is the first.

Two: I was thinking Vatche Royal Crown with Pave... with modifications (Vatche will do them)

I think a couple of nice STOCK setting options would be great though.

ALSO... what are the links on the FOUR C''s and pave and platinum versus YG and so forth we normally direct Newbies too? I want to send him this link... and have it be a complete ring resource and education thread for him.

THANK YOU ALL!

Why don''t you look at Leon Mege?
www.artofplatinum.com

His won''t be quite so busy, but I bet your coworker will love some of his delicate pave work. Nice budget.

Well I definitely think prongs instead of the cone thing. Where does the setting in the pic come from? There's that setting that I find looks a lot like that except it doesn't have the wave in it. Let me try to hunt it up.

Ugh. Can't remember the name of the setting.

Although the wave thing might be hard if she wanted to pair it with a wedding band unless he has it made at the same time. Has it considered the wedding band yet....

This is a great budget to work with...and there are so many options that could work...but the wave is what''s throwing me off a bit.

Is the wave negotiable?

gypsy you can send him to the tutorials here as well as GOG''s diamond education section. Both are really good and fairly easy to understand.

as for the setting..hmm...let me think about it and I''ll pop back in..

I''m going to say yes the wave is negotiable as it WILL be hard to get a wedding band to work with it, especially if it''s not a custom band.

ok, just thinking, have you showed him the legato with the pave from WF? that seems to be a setting most of the gals here love and it would make the stone look pretty big on the thin band...

also, have you seen the Spark rings on Pearlman''s site? there are some pretty unique designs and some of them are very reasonably priced..I like this one and it''s $1500..

and this one is only 1K...

does he know for sure she wants/likes the wave?? it's just not very traditional and not all women would like it for and e-ring. But is she wants it, that's another story..

I volunteer Irina to create one of her incredible designs for your friend.

Of course, I do not have the priveledge of volunteering her, but if I did, I would...

What about going to firenze jewelers online just for pics and then have leon or someone else custom make the ring? Firenze is high -priced but they have a great website with lots of ideas.

Allycat- I LOVE your cat by the way....

http://www.goodoldgold.com/setting/MM-Flame-Diamonds/ MWM Flame... I''d ask and see if he would add pave on there and for how much.

Vatche Swan ... I''d ask Wink how much it would cost to pave the shank like the one below.

Or just go for this one:

The second vatche is the EXACT one I was thinking of. That would be beautiful!

Well, I''ll ask if Irina can make that setting flow a little better, and get rid of that come... but possibly do pave on the prongs? 4 prongs that one has?

Gypsy can you tell me at least some of the requirements please - i don''t even know if it''s 4 or 6 prongs? Shoulders with pave - that''s the only thing i have to keep right?

SORRY!! I was hoping for something that would take the 'inpiration' rings main elements and incorporate them into something that flows better and is a little more delicate.
So...
Can you do 4 prongs, pave on the the prongs, the wave on the paved shank. And a cathedral side view?

Here are 2 raw sketches Gypsy - for 6-prongs on the left and 4-prongs on the right, they are not exact renderings, that to be done by a jeweler if those pictures would work as ideas.

whoot whoot! Me Likey!

Irina, did you encorporate the wave too? (as seen from a birds eye view?) or is this a straight band design?

LMAO some people are so decisive (not like me!). He decided to go with the concept idea on the right (four prongs) b/c he loved it and the wave swirl shank top view and get qoutes from Knox, Quest, and WF, and ERD for the design. I even made him a quick power point. He says that if he gets a good qoute on this, then he''ll know what to spend on his diamond. Smart.

He told me to thank you very much Irina for the renderings! And was frankly amazed at how little time it took to get some help on this.

I''ll be posting later about a stone for him. Although he liked the ERD save if you buy both from us thing. So we''ll see.

THANKS GUYS FOR THE HELP.

(He''s a bit freaked about our shutdowns too, as he is very new... so this made it easier for him to see how much he will need to get this done).
