We have been binge watching Cheers on Netflix and watched the final episode last night which ends with Sam responding to a knock at the door with "Sorry, we're closed" after all the regulars have left and he is in the bar alone. Perfect way to end the series IMO.

What has been your favorite ending to a television series and what was the final scene?

Friends had a good ending.

FRIENDS(1994-2004)

After ten years of coffee-house meetings, on-and-off romances, and memories both hilarious and heartwarming, the series wrapped up with fans feeling a sense of closure. Ross and Rachel were in it for good, Monica and Chandler had twins, Phoebe was happily married to Mike, and Joey had a new chick and a duck. With new sets of goals all around, the characters seemed ready to move on with their lives, but the same can't be said for us. Much like Monica's purple-walled apartment in the final scene, we will always be a little empty without our Friends

Most unforgettable was The Sopranos. I wouldn’t call it my favorite but I’ve never forgotten it. Same with Nurse Jackie.

Gossip Girl’s ending was a happy one and probably my favorite. It was one of my few guilty pleasure to series and I’ve watched (or listened to just for background noise) it three times in entirety which is six seasons, ~ hour long episodes.

Without a doubt, Six Feet Under. It wrapped up every single character arc. I have watched it many times. It was the perfect ending IMO.

The Leftovers. I don't want to give it away for those who are planning to watch the series, but I found the end to be very satisfying.

Six Feet Under was the best series finale ever!

Six Feet Under but Brenda and Billy's old people makeup? No.

This is a tough one... I often love a show and then it's canceled abruptly

My DH has this same problem, he gets completely bummed out and I think he has given up and just hopes they don't cancel the remaining ones that have stuck around.

I thought Mary Tyler Moore had a good ending too. I am always sad when my favorite series end because it's like losing old friends in a weird way.
I agree Six Feet Under was a great show with a good ending too. Breaking Bad and Sopranos also had a good ending. Loved Nurse Jackie...a great show! As an aside the chief nurse character is on another show now I forget the name but it is a law show I believe on ABC. I love the actress.

One series no one has mentioned yet is "Friday Night Lights". What a great series (IMO) and the ending was very good too.

And Cheers another great series with a good ending. I can't ever say the ending is amazing because I am sad that these series ended. :(2

On another note I thought the series finale of Seinfeld sort of sucked but I know most people loved it.

@missy, it's funny you mentioned Seinfeld because I looked up the finale yesterday on Youtube and yeah pretty underwhelming but oddly appropriate for the "show about nothing". We have the whole series on DVD but never got all the way through it.

I remember watching Cheers as a kid, like ten years old, so it was kind of a nostalgic thing but it's still funny today which a lot of the 80's shows don't hold their humor over the decades but Cheers absolutely does.

I love a good ending! (Happy, sad, whatever!)

Babylon 5
Boy Meets World
Poirot (the David Duchet ones)

I loved the ending to LOST but it was all up to interpretation.

Roseanne. Except apparently it no longer qualifies as the ending!

That was a good one! DH hated the ending but I loved how many ways you could interpret everything.

Cannot wait to see the ending to The Americans! !!

I thought the Sopranos had a memorable (if not satisfying) ending. Cheers was awesome. Friday Night Lights was a fantastic show but I thought the ending was too unrealistic.
