Nope no BBQ today. Just want this day to be over as soon as possible. Our furbabies HATE the fireworks and because of their anxiety during this day so do I. Everyone enjoy the day and stay safe.

today is my mother in laws birthday so every year we get together with hubbys family, we been going out to restaurant for the last 3 or 4 years...this year they decided since I have the biggest house we should have a cook out (would have been nice if they had ask!) anyway I have about 12 people coming over for a cookout..normal american food, hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, mac and cheese, baked beans, chips & dip, veggie tray and of course cake and ice cream...r

@missy same....our two dogs and our cats hate fireworks. I hope the fosters sleep through them!

Just hubby and I today. Our granddaughter has her 7th birthday party this weekend so we will all be together then. I just finished up washing all of my windows inside and out (yay!) as this has been a weeks long project and we are going out tonight for Mexican food!

If you want to join us, I'd suggest you get on a plane now. We can pick you up at the airport and head over for some fajitas!

We are going to DH's cousin's house since they have a pool, it will be my almost five year olds (four more days!) second time in a big pool so he is excited.

We made coleslaw and brownies, they will be grilling and everyone is bringing a dish.

Our dog is also afraid of the fireworks but our city did them on Saturday so it will just be the random fireworks going off. We will crate him and turn the radio on to hopefully muffle the scary sounds.

The kids are coming over for bbq steaks and the rest of the normal stuff. I think they bought a couple fireworks. Will have to lock up the horses in the small pen because the neighbor may be doing his fireworks display. He is a professional pyro guy and we get a treat every year. The dogs don't mind it too much.

And this year is especially awful because 2 of our kitties are ill. :cry2:

Just my hubby and I. Our young adult children are lounging in Lake Tahoe for the weekend! We will garden and grill up our dinner and dining alfresco!

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. What is happening with them?

I've been getting up every four hours with the white kitten since Tuesday night. She stopped eating on her own Wednesday am. I am now force feeding her. I think she's going to have to be transferred to a critical care foster. I can't bring her to work with me and force feed with what she needs. I'm hoping she'll decide to eat on her own, but so far, in the last 24 hours no.

She's lost weight as well. Just trying to keep her stable at around 12.8 ounces and not loose more. I will probably have to do another feeding in a little bit here. She was down .03 to 12.5 after her 9 am feeding. She has a nasty batch of coccidia but her litter mates do as well and they are eating on their own. I really don't want to lose her like her brother.

On my own (with the handsome guy in my avatar) until hubs gets home later. Someone has to fly all the holiday travelers around. Anyone fly from Chicago to Cancun/ Cancun to Chicago today? DH may have been your Captain, LOL!
Happy Independence day everyone. Be safe!

I made ribs too! We don’t have a barbecue at this house so I made them in the oven. They were the BEST ribs!

We hosted. We had steak, burgers, and lots of other goodies. DH always grills everything to perfection. We had such a great time.

@elizat and @missy best of luck with the kitties
my heart breaks for those we guys

and fireworks are never good for the animals
hope everybodies furbabies cope ok

Oh no @elizat I am sending bucketloads of healing dust your kittens way. Praying she survives. We have dealt with Coccidia before. It can be challenging. I gave 2 10 day doses once to a kitten to finally get rid of it. They can be sneaky little parasites.

All our kitties are now sick. Tommy with GI issues. Gastroenteritis or perhaps worse ie cancer. I am so worried about our Tommy. And now Fred and Bobby have something going on too. Lacking appetite which for them is highly unusual and all lethargic. We are super concerned. It's like a nightmare here right now.

Please keep us posted re your kitten and hoping things improve.

I am feeling the love from the 4th.

I wanted to slightly modify the chicken I am going to be serving to a group of friends next week, so I did three of them for a neighborhood BBQ party. OMG. it was hard not to sit down and eat all three chickens when I had a small bite while cutting them.

When we brought the chickens, each cut into eight pieces on a serving platter, they were the first thing to disappear completely.

It was a lot of fun talking with people at the picnic and watching the kids in the pool from less than a year to teenagers. In the yard, here were constantly kids putting on the jousting balls and trying to knock each other over.

Then came the fireworks. Resa and I had gone back to our house, just a short walk away from the picnic to be with Joe, my black labrador retriever. Whenever he hears an explosion, he looks to see if ducks are falling. If not, he is not interested. Still, we have made it a habit to be with our dogs on the fourth, just in case they do get nervous. It has never happened yet, maybe I will be lucky and it never will.

I climbed out on the roof of my garage so that I could see up and down the street and there were two groups of people that I could see easily setting off their safe and sane fireworks, but interspersed with much more of the unsafe and insane fireworks that are much more fun. I had a particularly great laugh when a firework that was supposed to spin in place on the ground somehow took off spinning itself off the center of the street and onto the driveway where all of the parents and kids of that particular group were. Even the old geezers were sprinting out of the way and once the firework went out, great laughter came up the street from the group that was now on the grass on either side of the driveway.

The neighborhood was full of happy, loving people and I just reveled in the love and appreciate how wonderful it is to live in this great country and to be free to experience what I did last night.

I hope you all have stories of your great 4th of July experience. If not, borrow some of my joy, I have a lot of it to spare, and enjoy the rest of your 4th of July weekend.

The images you described are right out of a Norman Rockwell painting :P2

@Wink, what is a Tragger thingy? Special type of BBQ? What does it do that our Webber won't?

You'll find out next week at Wink's BBQ?... They are nice but I can't afford one...;(.

I had a small BBQ get together this year. I don’t normally do one bc we normally go to the beach or someone’s house. We had about 12 people not including the 6 of us.
I made Filipino bbq on sticks, honey bbq chicken wings, hot dogs, lasagna, Mac and cheese, garlic butter shrimp, tri colored pasta salad and Filipino egg rolls called lumpia Shanghai. We had two dips- artichoke and bacon ranch dip with chips and nachos.
For sweets I made strawberries dipped in chocolate with red, white and blue sprinkles, strawberry bites with cream cheese filling, jello molds in red, white and blue and Filipino sweet plantain desserts called turrone. We had fresh mangoes and watermelons.
Lastly I made rumchata banana pudding shots for us adults.
We served wine and beer. Normally I would make white peach sangria and red sangria as well but I didn’t invite a lot of people so what i had was perfect.

Our 4th celebration actually occurs on the 3rd. We live in Iowa, on the Mississippi River. The Jaycees put on a huge fireworks show over the river, which draws about a 100k audience. The fireworks headquarters are basically right at the marina where our boats are slipped and our RV is parked. The party starts right away in the morning, with people coming down to the river/ marina area and setting up basically a tailgating atmosphere. Our kids and grandkids arrived about 11am and it was out for a boat ride until about 3pm, when the river gets shut down to pleasure craft in preparation for the air show that begins around 6. We started the smoker ribs and pork butts all day and that was served with cheesy hash brown casserole, potato salad, baked beans with sliced cheddar brats, coleslaw, macaroni salad and fresh fruit. Throughout the night, we probably fed about 20 friends along with the 10 of us. The fireworks show started about 9:30pm, and there were people roaming the area well into the morning. It's a bit different of a night as we usually cook out with our friends at the marina that we boat or camp with. However on this particular day, everyone that has a boat or camper there, host family and friends. The marina alone has about 300 boat slips, so all the docks are full of people too. It's an all day affair and lots of fun!
