Hello PSers, I asked a well known reputable online vendor to customize the head of one of their stock platinum settings to replicate the tiffany's 6 prongs. And to my amazement, these are the photos they sent me of the finished product. Of course, i said please refund my money immediately. Since I dont know how settings are made I dont understand how they can get it so wrong while saying they can replicate it exactly. Are these guys amateurs? Is this a joke? Or is this kind of craftmanship quality prevalent in the industry?

Did you ask to see their other custom work? I would guess it's more a sales claim that they can replicate anything exactly because first of all copyright issues. Second of all, how good is their bench? We don't know, but that is something that can be gauged by looking at their other custom work.

Well, yikes! I don't know who you ended up buying your diamond from, but there are only a couple of diamond vendors who are really known for their custom work, and those are the only ones I would have adapt a setting to change to that head...Whiteflash and BG, because they make other rings with that style head. But I guess you can't know for sure until you try. I am not sure it does any good for you to post this without telling us the vendor so we can advise other people not to customize if they buy a setting there.

It needs to be taller! TALLER!
I agree with pandabee. I don't have anything else to add but this: I'm sorry this happened to you.

Seems more wlike an execution issue than a craftsmanship issue.

Like, the already had a 6 prong Tiffany style head for a diamond much bigger and they didn't bother to get one for your diamond size.

I mean, if it wasn't so flipping tall, I wouldn't say its that bad.

I'm just surprised and disappointed that they would even try to tell me that this is a beautiful setting. It really makes me question their judgement and honesty. I am having the stone delivered on the cheapest setting imaginable and will first have it evaluated by a pro, and if it passes, figure out the proposal. And after this experience, I will have my then-Fiancé pick out her own setting! I'm just hoping the stone will be what I expect it to be, but I do have my doubts after seeing their custom work. i don't want to shame the vendor at this point, but if the stone is crap, then I will. I'm just glad others can see what I see and I'm not crazy, especially after this white blue dress thingy.

I agree. It does not look sloppy. Does it look like a good copy...well, if it weren't as tall as a sky scrapper, I would say it's not
a bad copy.

Letting you GF pick a setting is an excellent idea.
