Hi all.....

Am purchasing diamond studs for a really fine spouse who continues (for some reason) to put up with me. We have seven kids so budget is tight. She appreciates (and knows) fine diamonds. Want something that works with her current stuff. Ring on her hand is .821, h&a, vvs2, E color. Diamond on her neck is .40, h&a, vvs2, E color.

I am thinking something in the range of .3 to .35 for each ear. Right size given her other hardware?
She is petite and classic in her taste.

Found a pair at WF with the following specs:

Shape Round Ideal Cut
Carat 0.33; 0.328
Color E; E
Clarity VS2; VS2
Measurements 4.45-4.48X2.70; 4.47-4.49X2.71
Table % 56.3; 56.4
Depth % 60.5; 60.5
Polish Ideal; Ideal
Symmetry Excellent; Excellent
Girdle Thin to Slightly Thick; Thin to Medium Faceted
Culet Pointed; Pointed
Fluorescence Negligible; Negligible
Certificate AGS; AGS

Found a pair at JA that have these specs:

Shape: Round; Round
Lab: AGS; AGS
Carat weight: 0.32; 0.32
Cut: H&A; H&A
Color: E; E
Clarity: VVS2; VVS2
Certificate: AGS; AGS
Depth: 61; 61.4
Table: 57.1; 55.9
Polish: Ideal; Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal; Ideal
Girdle: Thin to medium; Thin to medium
Culet: None; None
Fluorescence: Negligible; Negligible
Measurements: 4.43*4.45*2.71; 4.40*4.43*2.71

Stones from WF are ES, not ACA, and are $670 each.
Stones from JA are H&A Ideal and are priced at $760 each, and appear very clean.

Have a request in to NiceIce and will probably talk with them today.
This is a Christmas present, so time is not a factor.

PLEASE tell me what you think, or what addition info you need to direct me.

THANK YOU...THANK YOU...THANK YOU.

Paul

Hi Timetrader and welcome!

Your size ranges sound fine, around a third to half a carat can be a great size for earrings. You could if you wish lower both colour and clarity a bit to maximise the size as long as the cut is great, but this is down to personal preference. For example G or H colour and VS2 to SI1 could make an excellent choice but like I said this is down to preference.

All of your choices look promising, could you post the images for each please such as the Idealscope images?

I agree with Lorelei...that you might want to drop color and clarity and go bigger in size or save yourself some more
money (which sounds like a great idea with 7 kids!)

Did you check that the crown/pavilion angles are a good combination on these stones? Right now if it were me I would
be more interested in the WF stones as long as they are well cut. (actually for me, I would drop the color/clarity for
earrings).

Thanks for the kind replies. Very helpful.

I am not able to copy images from JA website, but here are the links:

To make things a bit more interesting, have two larger ones from Mondera.
How are these folks to deal with?
It seems they do not offer scope images....anyone know why?
I think I will give them a call.....
In any event, specs are as follows:

Shape:Round
Weight:0.35 carat
Cut Grade:Ideal
Color Grade:E
Clarity Grade:VVS2
Laboratory:GIA
Certificate No:2106471781
Measurements:4.55-4.57x2.81mm
Depth:61.6%
Table:57%
Girdle:Medium to Slightly thick
Culet:NONE
Polish:EXCELLENT
Symmetry:EXCELLENT
Fluorescence:NONE

Second.......

Shape:Round
Weight:0.35 carat
Cut Grade:Ideal
Color Grade:E
Clarity Grade:VVS2
Laboratory:GIA
Certificate No:2101810681
Measurements:4.50-4.52x2.81mm
Depth:62.3%
Table:57%
Girdle:Medium to Slightly thick
Culet:NONE
Polish:EXCELLENT
Symmetry:EXCELLENT
Fluorescence:NONE

I like the idea of the .35 size.....

Also need help the the backing.
I note some offer screw type, and others are friction.
Whick is best?
My wife likes yellow gold......18k or 14K?

Thank you all again.

Paul

Update.

Called Mondera. Was advised they keep NO stock.
Cannot provide any images.
Going to take them off my list.....

Paul

Congratulations on such a wonderful wife and SEVEN kids! WOW!
I would drop color or clarity just a bit and got for .4 in 18kt yg and screwback. Friction is easier to lose.Especially when you have kids giving you big hugs! If I could do it, I would buy from Brian Gavin. His diamond earrings always look amazing!

Both sets look very nice. As to the backs of the earrings, screw backs are considered preferable I believe as they offer greater security. Ask each vendor to inspect your selections to see how well they match.

Contacted Brian Gavin.
Seem very user friendly.
Thanks for the direction/lead.

In reading a bunch of posts, it appears you all are quite satisfied with the stuff received from WF.
So..........
Spent more time with them on the phone and reviewing stones, and came back with two suspects.
Tell me what you think of them for earrings.

Yes, I am going over budget.....

Thanks so much.

Both look great!

That''s such a sweet present, she''ll love them!! .4 in each ear is a great size - very visible, definitely has presence.

Those 2 Wf stones should be beautiful!

Edit - to say what I really meant
