... because I am ENGAGED, as of last night!!!
A few weeks ago, J and I decided to have our own private Christmas celebration before we traveled down south to spend the holidays with my family. So last night was the night.
J planned and prepared an amazing dinner, while I baked up some yummy dessert. We opened our best bottle of wine, turned on some jazz, and enjoyed the glow of candles and white lights all around us.
Then it was time to open gifts. As I started opening one of mine, he told me that some of his gifts to me were going to come with some "stipulations." So the first thing I opened was a gift certificate for a few cooking classes at a local school (I have been dying to go!), and he said that the stipulation was that I''d have to come home and show him what I''ve learned by prepping us an awesome meal.
Eventually, we make our way down to our last gift. It''s something in a gift bag, and he tells me it''s from our dog, Augie (and yes, we are guilty of spoiling him and acting like he is our child). So I look in the bag and pull out a perfectly wrapped, very small box. I start to peel off the paper and get to a ring box. I start shaking. As I get ready to open the box, J says, "Augie wanted to give this to you, but the stipulation is that you have to agree to be his Mom." So I crack open the box, and inside it is a candy ring. I have no idea what kind expression came over my face, but I obviously had some sort of "what the heck" reaction. Next thing I know, J is in front of me with my engagement ring. He said, "And I wanted to give this to you, hoping you''d be my wife." I start crying, he starts crying... somewhere in the midst I say, "of course..."
It was incredibly sweet, incredibly simple, and very much us. After that, we called immediate family and then the three of us (J, me, and Augie) spent the rest of the night cuddled up on the couch watching movies. I have to say I am still overwhelmed with emotion. I have already broken out into happy tears twice this morning!!!
I''m going to try to post pictures, but in case I can''t... here''s what I know. It''s a 1.54 ct round brilliant in a custom platinum setting, which has an additional .6 ctw. Size is 6.25. He picked the ring out entirely on his own, and I think he did a pretty darn good job!!
