Yes, there is such a thing as too big

The heart shaped diamond is really pretty and much more suited to her hand size.

Honestly living in Russia, I'd be afraid to give my fiance something like that, it's almost like putting a hit on her!

Naval ring

a pendant would be MUCH more beautiful. the stone is too large for her hand, frankly it looks like costume jewelry, but I don't hang out in her circle so it could easily fit right in. a nice 5-6 carat round would look totally awesome on her.

She has a nose job, lip filler, butt implant that shows in one pix, I'm not saying this to put her down as much as to say she is fake, natural beauty always wins out over enhanced beauty. Like Kylie Jenner, she was so cute till she got breast implants, lips 3x the size of her real ones, it all looks artificial.

Give me Jon Snow. :)

My mom always said: "Catherine, money doesn't buy class"... :)

I know, I'm mean. I would love to have seen her before the boob job etc.

Part of it is also her stature (she is a model and pretty thin); a beautiful woman but her fingers look somewhat spidery. I think it is a total mismatch between delicate hands with these long fingers and a huge chunky ring that could double as brass knuckles in the case someone wants to attack her.

Part of it is a very rich man showing off his wealth that buys him this beautiful woman for whom he will buy items of luxury. I think it is very culture-specific and probably the result of living in socialism that created extreme deprivation of any kind of material goods. It is impossible to explain to people that "it is more decent and appropriate for a rich person to spend his wealth on charity"; it takes a couple of generations for the idea of charity to take roots, but unfortunately, I don't think that Russia has these couple of generations.

I found the instagram of the lucky wearer of the ring. She looks very much like a Barbie.

From what I have read about this woman, Ksenya Tsaritsyna, she is no beauty but clearly has the brains. She has only one year of college education, so not book-smart either but probably pretty street-smart. She was an aspiring model and an unsuccessful student when she met that oligarch, in a month they moved in together, and in five years, they are living in the Emirates in a seemingly carefree way. She is not even too pretty (I looked at the photos of Russian celebrities after surgeries - they all look exactly the same, as if cloned, what is there with fish-like mouths that is so attractive?). This diamond, like many other things, is her insurance for the future. (The kids are probably not, since there have been stories when rich men kicked out their wives and left the kids and the law was on their sides, but on the other hand, Russian men usually leave the jewelry and the apartments to exes, so better to say, not "kick out" but "buy out" of the family). And from what I understand, she is not going to squander her jewelries like another Moscow beauty did with her exclusive Graff jewelry after she was kicked out by her ex and replaced by a younger clone. Ksenya is not even a real model, i.e., had minimal career shortly before she met her hubby, but she has an instagram account detailing her life, and many followers. She met this oligarch and became famous through him, and now he is not only a rich man but the hubby of a famous wife... Somehow she managed! Like it often happens, she has many negative commentaries on her Instagram account as well, but she never answers them, merely thanks for positive ones. Sounds like a smart woman...

Am I ignorant of Russian engagement ring protocol, or is this actually just a RHR for her? (If the latter, what the bleep does her ER look like??)

Much too big for my taste. If your jewelry would make Elizabeth Taylor pause, you've gone too far :lol-2:
In many European countries, including Russia, ERs and WBs are worn on the right hand.

Sometimes I don't understand what people are thinking. Even if someone has the money, just why is that necessary? A tasteful ten carats would have still made a heck of a statement.

I am with you, gemgirl. You do not see The British Royal family wearing engagement rings like that. Not that I think they have the epitome of good taste. I grew up in a home where small pearl earrings and a strand of pearls were the standard jewelry. Call me old-fashioned. (Also a Yankee.)

Dang. She looks like she uses a snapchat filter in every one of her instagrams, but that's actually her face. Minus the dog nose and ears...here's an example of a filter. I don't know why people surgerize themselves to the extent of becoming a caricature. I will never understand it.
