IMG_0457.jpg Russian ogliarch marries the 27 yr old mother of his two children:

It's possibly sacrilege to say it on PS, but that size is truly hideous! But to each, his own I guess.

I saw that on dm today and thought the same thing. I would be afraid it would go the way of kim kardashian's ring.

Proof that money can buy many things, but not taste, it's fugly.:eek2:

I beg to disagree with you. There is no such thing as a "too big" diamond.

It's not that it's too big, - it's just too big for a ring!

Would look fab as a necklace, brooch or bracelet!

I have to agree! It's not the diamond that presents the issue; it's how it's worn & how it's set. PERSONALLY, I'd wear that like a ROCK STAR...but...with tiny, slender hands, people would laugh at me...lol!
Had the diamond been set in something more suitable, it wouldn't look so attrocious. A necklace, bracelet or brooch would far better fit the purpose for a diamond that size.

I would wear it just to enjoy all the disapproving looks from strangers. Although it does remind me of those paperweights you see at craft stores.

Certain people can carry off huge rings, either diamonds or colored stones. I am wondering if she wears it often, though. 1. rather difficult to perform certain acts in the bedroom without injuring someone, 2. with two children unless you never touched them it could also be dangerous. In conclusion, if she wears it all the time she must use a sex surrogate and a full-time nanny.

It reminds me of the glass door knobs in my grandmothers house!

But I would totally wear it, every day, 24/7. I'm sure I would get used to the heft.
On another note, she probably has a duplicate made, as well, because being Russia and all, someone may take her whole arm off for that thing.

There used to be a poster here with the screen name "Doorknob Solitaire!" That's what it reminded me of immediately. I don't know if anyone remembers her; it was a very long time ago.

I totally remember her -- wonder where she went off to...

As for too big... AprilBaby, my mind my have gone in a... um... different direction... when I saw you post. I was almost afraid to click! :cheeky:

We missed you at Christmas in July BTW! (And you too Monnie!)

HI:

I remember DKS. lol

I suspect this is the smallest gem they own. But "respectable" enough for public viewing.

cheers--Sharon

Missed you too! Next time for sure! I'm glad you clicked, it never occurred to me you might think something else ! :lol-2:

Am I ignorant of Russian engagement ring protocol, or is this actually just a RHR for her? (If the latter, what the bleep does her ER look like??)

Much too big for my taste. If your jewelry would make Elizabeth Taylor pause, you've gone too far :lol-2:

I dont think the problem is the diamond its the setting .
But Id probably use it as a necklace. It would be hard to raise my hand high enough so people could see it up close as my hand would be dragging on the floor from the weight.:eek2:

Glad my mind wasn't alone there!

I don't care for the setting, but if she wore it in a necklace....

By the sounds of it, she can probably afford it lol.

gosh.. it needs a double halo, I can barely see it!:mrgreen2::lol-2:

What flavor is clear? pineapple like for gummy bears?

Does it come in cherry? I'm a fan of cherry...:lickout:

I thought the same thing - it looks way too big on her hand.

Plenty of rings on that scale anywhere within the reach of Russian mores - if not many diamonds: you'd wear them in the way you would a clutch, which, happens to be securely attached to a finger.

Nice plaything !

Her lifestyle should have plenty of occasions to wear a tiara, so I'd set this as a convertible tiara/necklace... h#ck, if this baby was mine I'd find a way to wear it every day (just not in that setting).. don't blame the poor diamond for being too big..

I actually have to agree that thing is like a golf ball .. like how do you even keep your hand from not falling down from the weight of it ???

Part of it is also her stature (she is a model and pretty thin); a beautiful woman but her fingers look somewhat spidery. I think it is a total mismatch between delicate hands with these long fingers and a huge chunky ring that could double as brass knuckles in the case someone wants to attack her.

Part of it is a very rich man showing off his wealth that buys him this beautiful woman for whom he will buy items of luxury. I think it is very culture-specific and probably the result of living in socialism that created extreme deprivation of any kind of material goods. It is impossible to explain to people that "it is more decent and appropriate for a rich person to spend his wealth on charity"; it takes a couple of generations for the idea of charity to take roots, but unfortunately, I don't think that Russia has these couple of generations.

I found the instagram of the lucky wearer of the ring. She looks very much like a Barbie.

Sometimes I don't understand what people are thinking. Even if someone has the money, just why is that necessary? A tasteful ten carats would have still made a heck of a statement.
