Yellow sapphire in rose gold?

Hi everyone! I'm a long time lurker and I have finally decided to make my first big jewelry purchase after seeing all of the wonderful sparkly pieces that you all own! For my birthday this year i've decided that I want rose gold and a sapphire. I've been browsing around on the natural sapphire company's website and i've come up with this (picture to follow) and I was wondering what everyone thought. Is it worth the price(about $1350)? I've read on these forums that the natural sapphire company is overpriced. It is a 0.68ct yellow/ orange sapphire (5.02 x 5.00 x 2.9 radiant cut with "insignificant inclusions" from Ceylon set in 18k rose gold. Also, i've never seen a yellow sapphire set in rose gold...is it tasteful? thanks in advance for reading this!

Not sure about the price though and that particular sapphire.
It doesn't look like a good cut - I can see windows.

Maybe someone who has more knowledge on sapphires/gems can provide more feedback.

I feel like you might be disappointed by the size. It's probably about 4x bigger in that picture than it will be in real life. That depends on your monitor of course.

I don't mind the concept or the execution...but the picture doesn't give you anything to go off of by way of size...

Overall, the design is pretty and the biggest portion of the cost probably lays in the design itself, not the sapphire. What is the listed treatment of the sapphire? It seems rather light in saturation and if you draw out 5x5 mm on a sheet of paper, you will see the actual size, which is on the smallish side. I am not seeing a window, but a glare off the table which is nothing to be concerned about. Any information about the cttw of the diamonds and their quality?

Hi Thanks for replying! the total size of the pendant would be 11mmx11mm and the Sapphire has no treatments. I'm not sure if the sapphire has any windows, but they said that there are minor inclusions that might be able to be seen from the size of the stone. The only information that they give about the diamonds is that there are 60-65 of them and the carat weight is 0.6-0.65.
Vapidlapid: i've not already purchased it, it's on the section of the website where you can chose your own sapphire and have it set.

I'm not loving the size, nor the color. It looks sickly, pale greyish yellow. Many unheated yellow sapphires are desaturated and too grey or brown. It's usually the beryllium treated ones that have some nicer color, but they're be-treated You can't win with yellow sapphires it seems.

The color is weak and as Chrono pointed out the stone is quite small. But since this is from the choose your own section you should be able to choose a much nicer stone. Most of the cost it in the gold, though there's not much of that. It looks substantial on the big screen, but overall it has the dimensions of an aspirin. The website gave no information about the melee quality. Yeah, it is over-priced. The video looks like an animated computer rendering rather than an actual optically captured video.

Get a pale yellow citrine, it's far cheaper, and since it's in a pendant, you don't have to worry about it being banged up.

Occassionally ebay stores gemburionline, odysseygem (same owner) has pale yellow sapphires that are untreated, and he can provide reputable lab memos for them. They are very reasonably priced in that pale yellow color. I'm talking maybe $100/ct. You can then buy a premade setting on ebay in rose gold from one of the inexpensive Chinese sellers.

You would come in way below your budget if you went that route. You could email the vendor, (his name is "Tan") to see if he has any untreated pale yellow sapphires in stock. I saw some on his sties, but I don't think he currently has any listed in the color you're looking for.

Honestly, I wouldn't pay that much for a pale yellow sapphire, even if untreated.

Don't know if you like greenish yellow, but this stone is very reasonable for the size, and it's got better luster and sparkle than a sapphire, and it's untreated.

It would look great in rose gold.

Chrysoberyl is almost as durable as sapphire, and it's not a treated gem.

It would fit in a standard 6x6mm cushion setting.

I prefer settings with a little more heft to them than the chinese ebay sellers make, so I would suggest that with the stone you want in hand you look at some etsy goldsmiths like daniel m and julia kay taylor, both of whom are mentioned frequently in this forum. You should be able to get something custom in 18k rose and still be in your budget.

Some of the settings from the Chinese sellers do have some heft to them in the $500 range. If she wants diamonds in the settings, I think they're the most cost effective, but I do agree that Daniel M and JKT are the way to go if you want more economical custom work that is very nice. I think Daniel M's prices are very reasonable, and I never bought from JKT, so I can't comment as much on her pricing, but I heard she's reasonable for her unique design work.

With the Chinese sellers, you just have to find a jeweler that can set the stone for you. JKT and Daniel M will do it for you when you ship the stone to them. I am unaware of how much their settings would cost with diamond melee, but I'm sure some other people can comment on that. They both work in rose gold as well. I do buy a lot from the Chinese sellers, but that's because I hate shipping stones in the mail. I also find them very reasonable, and I have a good jeweler that is willing to set my stones for a fee.

What you can do is send that photo to Daniel M, or JKT, to get a quote, but find the stone first, as you want to always buy the stone before the setting. It's harder to find a setting that will fit a stone.

Thanks again everyone! I really like the idea of choosing a stone and sending it to one of the goldsmiths on Etsy (I didn't know that I could do this!). I've search the forums for jewelry by Daniel M and JKT (thanks VapidLapid and Tourmaline_lover) and it's beautiful. I think that I will search for a stone then and see if they can create a setting in 18k rose gold for me. One more question! What are your opinions on setting a blue sapphire in rose gold? I'm really set on rose gold because the color looks very nice against my skin. I've found this sapphire, but i'm not sure if the color will conflict with rose gold. Do you think that this would make a sizable pendant? The stone is 1.42ct (7.67 x 6.78 x 3.34 mm).

Two very important questions:
1. Is the stone treated? If not, does it come with a cert and what is the lab?
2. Do you mind a bay door? It looks to have a fairly large window which might not close up in a setting, making the center look dead with only liveliness at the outer edges of the pear.

Here's a photo I took a while ago of a pear sapphire in a rose gold setting. You be the judge if you like it or not. I would not buy a sapphire from ANYONE without a reputable lab report indicating ALL possible treatment, unless you're paying very little for the stone, and you don't care about treatment or synthesis.
