Yellow Diamond Search in Toronto

Hi guys,

I am shopping for a pear shaped yellow diamond, yellow intense...

I am thinking that the carat size would be around 0.8--under one carat. I am willing to forgo clarity for a good size and color but am wondering what else I should be thinking about.

For a pear in the 0.8ct range what should I be thinking in terms of depth, length to width ratio, and, most important, price?

What should I look for in terms of cut. I have seen a few diamonds on James Allen and another few on Leibish but my jeweler has warned me about buying from them because he thinks that the coloration is too good to be true.

Does anyone also have experience buying fancy diamonds from Leibish or JA and find that their images and the color IRL was accurate?

I am very timid about buying online without having seen the diamond but cannot find anything decent as of right now.

Your help would be much appreciated!!!

I am all for eye clean in order to get good colour and a decent size within budget. Do not worry about the depth, length and etc for now other than knowing whether you prefer a chubby pear or long skinny pear. It makes the search more difficult when you add constraints such as a specific depth or LxW ratio.

I have purchased white diamonds from JA but not coloured diamonds. They are a reputable vendor and have a generous return period so I have confidence in buying from JA, especially stones that come with GIA paperwork. I (and many others) have also purchased from Leibish and would have no concerns buying from Leibish again. I've found their photography and video very helpful and reasonably accurate.

I've ordered a couple diamonds from Leibish - I found their photos and description to be fairly accurate, and their customer service is outstanding. If you create an Account to be a member, you'll see the discounted prices offered to members... and please do sign up for their newsletters, Leibish's CyberMonday sale is next Monday and is billed as having the lowest prices of the year.

Another source for yellow diamonds is Diamonds By Lauren - here's a link showing the yellow pears currently available - http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/ind...min=&price-max=&cat_id=207&ring_types=&page=1 - while I haven't bought direct from David (owner of Diamonds By Lauren), there are many PSers who have been very happy with his yellow diamonds.

Of course he's going to say that.
He has a conflict of interest.
He wants to sell you a diamond.

One difficulty is, the color of FCDs in person change with changes of lighting and environment.
Since the color in real life varies it begs the question, "What is the true color of the gem after all?"

I've bought 20 Fancy Colored Diamonds from Leibish and I can testify that their photography is quite accurate, and not 'too good to be true.'
Also, since I'm an FCD photographer I appreciate how very difficult it is to achieve accurate color, even with very fine equipment.

Your jeweler has a point though.
It would be ideal if we could view before buying, but my experience with Leibish makes me trust their pics implicitly.
Leibish has a huge inventory no jeweler can match, good return policies and service.

forget about all of these internet vendors... AND your local jeweler... they're all crooks! buy from me...

all kidding aside, what kenny said, your local jeweler has COI... he wants your money, he doesn't want you to buy a diamond else where...

search this forum for internet vendors such as leibish, dbl, etc... you'll find tons of testimonials or reviews... some vendors will even take a video of your diamond if you request it...

I would rather buy a colored diamond in person. Can you make a trip to NYC and visit DBL? He has lots of great colored stones.

What's your budget?

I can also vouch for going to DBL aka diamonds by lauren, I have purchased several pieces from David over the last seven years and I have always had a pleasant experience. I actually just purchased my first yellows from him and was very pleased. I would also recommend seeing the diamonds in person if possible, you never know which shade will strike you IRL. I have found that I prefer lighter yellow diamonds to the more intense stones. You won't know until you see :twirl:

I have a 5-6 thousand dollar budget, which does not seem enough for an intense yellow .8 ct. That is why I was considering Dianer diamonds which are HPHT treated.

The only issue is that I cannot find any info on the Dianer company. Anyone have any ideas. Help please!!!!!!

I found this one you can call Adam and ask if he has it in stock or if he can bring it in for you to see they're located in Barrie On.

There are many untreated fancy intense yellow diamonds around 0.6 ct to 0.8 ct for under your budget at Leibish. I much prefer untreated diamonds over treated ones.

@Rusinsky

I am assuming it is too late now, but my name is Avner and I am the CEO of Dianer Diamonds. If you or anyone else here has any more questions about the specific treatment processes we use to enhance our diamonds, I am happy to answer you.
