Coming down to the finals...I like a simple, low cathedral setting with straight prongs that is open in the front and back (no basket). The picture makes the prongs look bigger than actuality, but I need some opinions on it please. Yea or Nea?

I had thought I wanted the band to be flush with the ring, but because of the low setting, the band would need to be slightly notched or be slightly curved for this one.

If you have any ideas or rings that are similar please let me know. Price is not an issue.

All comments appreciated!

no image?

Thanks yssie,
I found this through a local jeweler, who gave me a bunch of options. However, another sales woman at a national chain who is trying to sell against this one is telling me it is a little bulky... I just need some women''s input. I like it, but want to make sure the curved band won''t be a big deal either, since I won''t be wearing it...

I do think it's thicker and heavier than some other settings - I wouldn't call it dainty, but I certainly wouldn't call it bulky. "Substantial" fits nicely

. I think it's a very pretty ring. If you're concerned over the prongs or shank in particular, your jeweller can probably shave them down a little for you..

Some women like curved bands, some don't. I personally don't like them, but I don't particularly like the gap that forms with a straight band next to a protruding basket either... I chose the small gap as the lesser of two evils. The only one who can really answer this one is your gf!

I don''t like a cruved or notched band myself. The band spins and the notches or curve no longer match up. You can wear a straight band with it if you don''t mind a little gap. But it is a thicker looking solitaire.

If it were me, I would get this Sholdt from Pearlmans. It is only around $800 right now on sale (girst cards are 20% off) in white gold and it is gorgeous.

A band will sit flush with this setting with no curve.

My TOTALLY honest opinion is Nay!

What is her ring size? My ring finger is a 4.5 and I prefer settings that are more dainty and feminine (max shank width of 2mm). IMO, this setting is a bit wide and hefty but then again all that matters is her preference.

I kinda like it, but I have a larger finger. Not sure I would like the gap in the band and definitely would not like a curved band.

Thanks for the input! Her ring size is a 5 or 5.5 I think. The curved band seems like a turn off. I''ll continue my hunt and talk to the jeweler about option.Thanks.

I wear size 4 and I LOVE this substantial looking setting - I think it''s aweosme!

Good luck with the search. Honestly I wear smaller than that ring size and I think it is too chunky to me. Though it would depend on finger length. I have petite fingers all around and wouldn''t look good with a setting like that.

Yeah a curved band is a pain. They shift a lot. I''m sure it''s daintier looking in person, but it is metal-heavy; thick prongs, thicker band... it really depends on your style though. It''s not to my taste- I like less metal, more diamond lol, but it does look like good workmanship and the style is classic enough.

I agree. The prongs a bit heavy for my liking. The more metal you have around the stone the less of the stone you can see.

Thank you for all the feedback (for and against)! The picture does make the prongs look heavier and with more metal than it does in person. I also have a 2 ct. diamond vs the 1.25 that is being shown, so that may help. If anyone has some options of this style ring that fits a straight band or knows a good custom jeweler, I would appreciate it greatly. I am looking for a simple, low profile solitaire setting that will show off the rock!

So many choices! I guess it would be easier just to take my Girlfriend shopping, but where''s the surprise in that!

Thanks again!

In case you missed it, this one could be a perfect match for you.

Thanks dreamer and tyty,
I have my local jeweler trying to locate the first one posted so I can go check it out in person. I''ll have to get them to bring in tyty''s post as well. Thanks so much!

Unless they are Sholdt dealers they probably cannot get those rings in. Google sholdt, there may be an authorized dealer near you where you can see them in person.

Looking at their website (http://www.sholdtdesign.com/Rings.htm), I also like

R281-1
R149-1
R472-1P

I may have to call them, but in speaking with two other designers, the previous have been pretty good about sending out their rings (with cz) so I can get an idea how it looks in person.

Thanks again!

I hope that they will! Apparently Sholdt are really great to deal with. They are a smalll operation, family run, and hand make all their settings.
