So, I was browsing on James Allen the other night and came across this stone that was almost 50% less in price from other similar stones. I know...I know...too good to be true but I was secretly hoping it's a typo that they would honor :wink2:

Anyway, I went ahead and put the stone on hold while I waited for the images. I got the report today and was wondering what you thought. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1439653.asp

It's a 1.240carat, E color, SI, Ideal, AGS OOO stone. Here is the link to it. The report is not very clear but I plugged the numbers I think I am seeing into HCA and it came back with a 1.2. Excellent for everything except for spread which is very good. I suspect it's due to the 54.7table.

I am extremely attracted to the ASG0, the color and size. My main concern is the clarity plot. I have never seen such a laundry list of inclusions before. I have always had VVVS stones but after PS I am more comfortable going down in clarity and putting the cost into the other C's. But even then, this might be way too much of a transition to me and I worry about the "mind clean" issue, though I told myself I won't loupe this one at all.

But some of the inclusions might be too much...lazer drilled, pulse laser, bruise, chip....

This is what James Allen has to say:
After speaking with the diamond department, this diamond faces a bright, refined white free of visual characteristics.

So, what do you think? Should I pass entirely? Should I bother purchasing it and returning it if I don't like it? I have until 2pmEST before I lose the hold. Oh, and price for stone is $5,600. Thank you!

only thing I could think of based on the blurry picture is that perhaps the inclusion is a comprehensive list not specific to this stone (someone familiar with 2007 AGS format might be able to chime in). With regards to the Laser Drill Hole this thread recently discussed that specific inclusion with regards to being a treatment to enhance clarity by allowing a dark inclusion to be acid bleached

I would probably request a higher quality scan of the report to see if the inclusions all show up on the plot since it is too old for AGS to have a PDF on their report verification site. the JA policies are generous though should anything not be to your liking (may also be worth having carefully appraised to make sure nothing has happened to the stone in the ~5 years since last certification.

The price is amzaing! Did your ask JA about inclusion? Is it eye clean? Since the certification is 2007 and price is much lower, is it a trade-in stone?

What are your circumstances? Is this diamond going to let you get a lot more "diamond" for your budget than you previously thought, or is this just a question of saving a few thousand you planned to spend otherwise? Has JA spoken to durability? Have you talked to an insurer about if they charge a higher premium for stones with these inclusion types?

Thank you for all the responses!

I asked James Allen if the "key to symbol" was a general comprehensive list or whether it was specific to the stone. And I asked them to explain to me about the pulse laser and laser drilled hole.

Well, this is their response: "I would first like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. As a company, we do not offer laser drilled diamonds, and it appears this diamond has been posted in error. We cannot offer this diamond, but I will spend some time reviewing our inventory to find an alternative diamond for you."

So, it looks like there was an error in the post and they do not offer that diamond for sale. Oh well.

As for my circumstances, I don't really need anything right away. But thought that opportunity was too good to pass up further investigation. Probably next year though, I really will be in the market for some goodies.

Thank you so much everyone!

The diamond is still listed on the site but is currently listed as not available.

Yeah, I noticed they changed it right after I contacted them about it. They said they were going to take the post down. They did send me a listing for what they consider is comparable, which was a smaller hearts and arrow diamond for almost double the price.

Thanks DiamondsDiamonds for that. I think what you found is a better comparison that what they sent me.
