that site needs some serious work....it's pretty clugey and hard to navigate..i ended up getting lost a few times and wondering where i was.

also, alot of the thumbnail picture click-throughs are broken. alot of the items still show $0 as pricing. the thumbnails on the pages are lost in all the 'white' expanse of background and look a big 'grainy' in quality. the names of each ring/piece are all named the category aka 'woman wedding bands' rather than having it's own differentiator of the item aka '.30ctw eternity ring, stock #305'. i could go on for days!

also does mark sell leon mege and DCD settings? some of the thumbnails in the designer showcase section are pictures from their sites, one of them even has the LM watermark in the picture? sweet, if that is the case, i just didn't know it!

the site has promise but i don't know if it is really DONE or not. it always drives me nuts when people spend a good amount of time (and usually money) on a site, and then make it live when it's obvious that major proofing still needs to happen. IMO customers should not need to do site proofing. just a pet peeve of mine from all my years in the ecommerce sector!!

can't wait to see it when it's really completed (and maybe when those 'select' pulldowns are all GONE!)

Eh someone really needs to read things over prior to posting them on that sight "All side stones are g/n color, VS quality unless specified" G-N in color is HUGE range surely that was a typo.

After reading Mara''s reply I went to part of the designer showcase. Several of those rings looked familer to me, from either Mege''s site as Mara mentioned and DCD or here from Pricescope.
Now I know when we post our photos here they are "public". I am not argueing that point here. But the one I got upon hitting the designer showcase link is one I know for a fact is from here on Pricescope...Not Kool.

I may be totally wrong about this, but it looks to me like some of the pictures from the "antique engagement ring" section are from the website antiqueengagementrings.com. And there do seem to be a lot of pictures from Leon Mege. Does LM sell his pieces to other businesses for resale? Strange....Lots of nice looking rings, though.

I noticed the exact same thing.

HI:

Owner is XRaydoc if memory serves......

cheers--Sharon

I have been trying to find it myself but with no luck so far. If it was pruchased through him I will remove my comments from here ASAP.

found it. it''s xraydoc''s ring

and they purchased the stone from Mark and here''s a quote from the thread:

We saw the setting at a local B&M, and they frequently advertise it in the regional fashion magazines, and wanted it bad. But of course their pricing was outrageous. Fortunately Mark had a "connection" with the maker, Harry Kotlar, and we got the stone set in the exact same branded setting at an unbeatable price. The setting is two pieces, the ring with center stone plus a separate wedding separate band.

I would think he would have pemission to use the pictures he has chosen to use on his site.

Wow CanukGirl You have a fantastic memory!
I stand corrected about that ring....anyone want to explain the others...

I would think Mark probably supplied the stones for the rings and was the go between with the designers. I can''t imagine he would used copyrighted pictures w/out permission.

This was what I meant in the post above...though on their web page it mentions "In addition, with our own specialized staff of jewelers, we can re-create many of the current styles that are popular today. We will occasionally be adding new designers and their designs to our site. Rings can be ordered in either platinum,18kt. white/yellow or 14kt. white/yellow."

One more try...

The bottom line is that people are confused, so the site needs to be more specific in explaining WHY there are customer images of their rings and diamonds (aka xraydoc''s) and also why there is a copyrighted Leon Mege ring on the site, etc etc.

The vibe I got from the ''select'' pulldown was that the rings in the images were ''stock'' (or stock #''d anyway) and could be purchased or replicated for XYZ amount. If Mark is a third party selling LM and other settings or design work, great but that is not CLEAR to the reader/consumer from the way the site is setup now.

Thanks Mara, you said much more concisely what I had been attempting to say.

Just for the recored when I clicked on the pick of the mege ring it was on their webpage with Mege as part of the title.

I agree, it''s confusing and does lead you to believe you can click on a designer ring and ERD will make it for a price.

mark is a great guy and totally up and up...so i''m sure those pix are there with permission or for a reason...he doesn''t come on ps much so maybe someone can email him for info...

I was overwhelmed when I went on. i think most people want to see Diamond Search very clearly....I was confused and it was hard to navigate.

BTW, Mark obtained Leon''s permission to post those images! :)

Does anyone have any other points about how to refine the site? Mark and I were emailing and he wanted my input so I figured I''d ask here...

I think there is a lot going on on the left...the policies, etc., should be under one link to them...and then you go to another page with all of that...do we agree?

The diamond search on the first page should be clear..

I personally don''t like the big long pages with thumbnails and select pulldowns and relatively little ''description'' under each item. As a jewelry nut I want to see better images, more descriptions, what I am looking at, etc.

Also, you can search by everything but CUT of the stone. aka Ideal or VG etc. Seems like if you can search by Symmetry then a CUT differentiator would be helpful....in some ways though not everyone uses a pre-determined cut to search.

Also there is too much white space in the backgrounds, the thumbnails and wording is set onto white so things seem to get lost in the white space. I like white because it''s clean and easy to read but in this instance there''s a bit too much and the thumbnail pictures that have white backgrounds seem to ''fade'' into the page.

I agree too much going on the left, too many options maybe. I personally like when things are grouped together more and then you can have sub-navigation if necessary, but every like breakout doesn''t need to be on the main page. I''d have him ''funnel'' people where he wants them to go..aka ''diamond search'' ; ''jewelry galleries'' ; etc.

Thanks! I''m sure he appreciates the comments!

I think the typos need to be fixed... I posted on above that was just glaring at me. I also dont like it when the pictures for the rings are taken on diffrent backgrounds, it gives off a cheap kinda of thrown together kind of feel. Also the descriptions dont really tell much about the rings. It bothers me that he has rings that are cleary from other designers...like the Mege I posted, but are not listed that way. The drop downs are distracting. I have not looked at the loose diamond serach yet but I think it would be great if they said which ones where in house and had pictures and detailed info.

Mark told me a couple weeks that he was working with Leon, so that would explain the pics. I think the site is a huge impovement over the last one, but the comments are right. If I didn''t know Mark, I''d find it a bit distracting and busy although not nearly as distracting as US Certed''s site.

I think Mark should check out Wink''s old thread about web site design.

I will say this about Mark and ERD. His response time is amazing and his base in New York allows him to quickly look at many stones without shipping expenses. If you are looking for competitive pricing, he is one of the best if not the market leader, imo.

No joke noobs! ...I remember I was looking for side stones...I didn''t even have the ok from Mr. Pennypacker (a/k/a my husband) but I emailed Mark...ummm, at lunch time he calls and he''s like, yeah, it''s really pretty, I''m looking at it at my desk right now LOL...
6.gif
It''s great that he can just take a walk about look at all sort of stone options for you...he doesn''t make you pick from a list of ones to call in....I think we all know what a set of numbers can tell ya!

Yea, I know MMM. It''s actually quite freaky when he first did it with me. I was looking at a stone on a web site and the next day he was looking at it describing it to me. I told him, I hope you didn''t have to pay shipping, he said he walked across the street!

As you know, Mark can get most stones listed at the most well known on-line site for a lot less. In one case, it was over 10% less.
