Strm,

Found out late this afternoon (by email from CEO), not only is our company not giving any merit increases next year (no raises or bonuses company wide), they will also be laying off another 1800 employees globally, which is 4% of our workforce. (This is not including the 500 they laid off in early Fall from CDO dept, and the others that have been let go in the last 2 days; which there will be more of tomorrow.)

Should I start looking into housing in Indy, Iowa, or Michigan??? However, FI's family owns and operates a metal manufacturing company for oil production.

Which of these three do you think might prevail?

Well since congress is more interested in saving the crooks on wall street than the growth engine of the country Indy, Iowa, or Michigan are out.

Since the dems aren''t going to let the oil be drilled that is out.

So your close to being sol.

Who would have thought!

Congress wants business plan from automakers

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081120/ap_on_go_co/congress_autos

IMO this is just more politicking. It looks like the Democrates in Congress are being reasponsible.

In fact, whatever the Big 3 Automakers produce will not be scrutinized anything like a real business plan would be. Any ligitimate scrutiny will show that there is no way that the current big 3 structures and product lines have any long term longevity on any substaintial scale... regardless of the money pored into them. Only by dramaitic restructuring - including substaintial wage reductions of the workforce - can the Big 3 american operations stay in business in a competitive way.

I think it''s all intended to be a chirard....
