Would you upgrade from 0.78 RB to 0.92 RB for an addl $1500?

The subject says it all. Both are WF ACA's... Would I notice a difference from a 5.9 diameter RB to a roughly 6.2-6.3 diameter RB.

For $1,500, no I would not. I would take the $1,500 and get a blingy wedding band instead, or just save the money and be content with a 0.78. It's a very nice size! As far as the size difference, I think you might be able to notice it, but it would be a very tiny difference.

That is what I would do though, I'm sure others would say to go for it! What way are you leaning towards?

I don't know... I was leaning towards upgrading the center stone on my 3-stone WF ACA's, but I don't want to spend $1500 if I don't even notice a difference! I may upgrade the side stones instead to get more "diamond" going on...

I think you would notice the difference if they were side by side but separately, it would be hard.I just bought a RB diamond with that measures 7.7mm and I have a AV cushion that is 7mm and I have a a hard time seeing the difference in size in person!! I feel like I need to go up to a 8mm and ++ to see the difference....... if only $$ grew on trees ....sigh.

Yep... I currently have .32-.78-.32 .... I could upgrade the side stones to .4 ct each for $800 total

I could also upgrade the side stones to 0.5 ct each... but I feel like they may look the same size as the .78 ct?

What are the measurements on the .32 and the .4? If not much of a change, It might be better to spend the money on a blingy band

I agree with others that it is not worthwhile to upgrade for a small size difference, although I believe you would notice the size difference.

if I were you, I would "upgrade" by making a graduated 5-stone ring for maximum finger coverage. You may need to shell out extra money for the two smallest end stones. The 5-stone ring will make a nice right hand ring, when you upgrade again to get a larger diamond for a solitaire Ering. Make sure you save your solitaire setting when you get your 5-stone setting.

Since it's in a 3 stone, I definitely wouldn't do it because I don't think it will be that noticeable. It'd maybe be a different story if it were a solitaire.

Yes. The 5.9 will look more like a .75ct and the 6.3 will look like 1ct. Pricescope's adage has been "If you get 10% more face-up size, then upgrade.)
If I did this right, face-up is area of a circle.
5.9, 29.71 sq mm / 6.3mm, 33.88 sq mm difference = 14.02%
6.2mm would be 32.81 sq mm difference = 10.4%

The first diamond I owned was 5.8mm. The second one is 6.3-6.4mm. It definitely looks larger.

I think you will see a difference between 5.9mm and 6.2-6.3mm - and I agree with the above poster that your current stone is closer to a 3/4 carat, and the new stone is basically a 1-carater - I also checked your other topics and it does seem you would like a larger center stone - is the $1,500 for the new stone and you can use the same setting?

My wife has 0.32 side and 0.8 centre. Our opinion is that if you upgrade the sides only you're in danger of losing the contrast between them and the centre.

Yeah I could use the same setting, and it would be an additional $1500 to upgrade my current center stone to the new one. I'm not sure... I could even wait until they get a 0.95 ct ACA at a good price and snag that one... Hopefully there is a noticeable difference between a 0.78 ct and a 0.95 ct !!

Also, unfortunately, I can't upgrade to a new setting... I paid $1500 for this setting and it is not returnable, so I'm stuck with either upgrading the center stone or the side stones

Upgrade the center stone, not the side stones. And yes, 0.3 mm difference is noticeable.

I also could try to sell the WF setting on DB or some other site... I'm not sure how much luck people have had with that. The setting is brand new and has never been worn, trellis style, 18k yellow gold, platinum head!

1. No, I most likely wouldn't, but it depends on the size of the sidetones, really. I saw someone who upgraded a 3 stone by a much larger margin than that, and the difference, though noticeable, was on the whole unremarkable for me. That person's sidetones were larger than I prefer, so it really drowned out the mm difference in the center stone. If you did upgrade, I'd advise you to keep the smaller sidetones if possible.

The two side stones are only J color. The center stone is K color. I cannot notice a difference in color between the two, and can get away with J/K since it is in yellow gold.

I would use the money to upgrade color in the centre stone to an I or J if you really must do something. I think you are just antsy hanging onto this thing for so long waiting to propose. You will lose far too much reselling things... Why throw the money away before she has even seen it??
