Would you spend extra for the platinum vs. WG bezel pendant?

It costs approximately $157.50 dollars to go with a platinum pendant instead of 18k WG. The pendant is a simple bezel and it will have approximately a .40 stone in it. Is the platinum worth it on a small project? Will the platinum help flipping since the necklace will be heavier? Will platinum in a pendant look super dull more quickly than a ring?

Me personally having wg and platinum would go for platinum. WG needs to be dipped to make it white. New project!!! Whooo hoooo

Do you think it will need to be plated more often or less often than a ring? I do get frustrated with having to rhodium plate my ring every 6 months, but I don''t want the pendant to look dull all the time either!

maybe since it is a pendant and won''t rub like a ring it won''t need to be plated as often. Now, I am think mayb wg would be better to keep the shine.
I am so happy for you!!! I don''t think it will flip. You should page, Gail, she just bought a pendant bezel setting from WF but she hasn''t posted pics yet. You can always find her in the WWT.

If your skin reacts to your ring, it will to a necklace too. I think you''ll probably have to rhodium plate often as well. I would go for platinum with such a small price difference...

She ended up with a beautiful diamond floating pendant from WF, it''s lovely. Hmmmm, where''s the thread...I can''t find it now.

Gail if you are out there, please chime in!

It seems like a small price difference in the scheme of things...and I bet platinum on your neck stays polished and shiny longer than it would in a ring.

I don''t know...I like the look of white gold a lot and I went for it in my e-ring over platinum, but I think that for such a small price difference and for a necklace I would probably go platinum.

You are probably right. One thing is that I will probablly wear this pendant only about half as much as the ring, but I will still probably have to have it plated in a year. With the price difference in three years the plating costs will have paid off if I get platinum.

Does anyone have any idea how dull this pendant is going to look after a while? I don''t anticipate bumping it on things and scratching it as much as a ring.

This is what I''m hoping, thanks for chiming in! I hope you are right and if this is the case, it would probably be worth it to get the platinum.

The pendant design is pretty modern and I think that modern pieces also look a little better in the darker platinum color vs. whitegold.

No thread yet. I don''t think???? She said in WWT she needs to still post pics. Maybe I am wrong. I can''t wait to see hers too!

I do not think that a pendant would need plating as often as a ring. The only place my ring has yellowed is where it has rubbed the other ring. I don''t see my white gold pendant needing to be rhodium plated nearly as often, if ever. If your ring is wg, I''d probably go with wg because it may hold the shine longer than platinum. But if you had platinum rings, I''d probably go with platinum just to be consistent.

Found it!!! She has WF teaser pics, but not her own pics! Here it is: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/last-minute-advice-pendant-setting.63076/page-2

I can''t wait to see her personal pics, it looks fabulous!!!

Well my e-ring is wg and my wedding band is plat (not worn together, no worries), so that probably doesn''t matter much. So far my plat wedding band still looks shiny on the top where it doesn''t get bumped as much, but it already has mild patina on the bottom.

In the grand scheme of things though, rhodium plating really drives me nuts LOL!

Then if the platinum has looked better on you longer than the wg, I''d go with platinum.

I doubt the platinum would look dull on a pendant since it''s not going to get scratched and dinged like a ring would. If your e-ring needs to be replated every six months chances are the pendant would too. So I''d go with platinum.

If this is true, then definitely platinum I think. The price difference is there, but I prefer platinum as long as the pendant isn''t going to look completely dull all the time.

I have a 14k diamond pendant that I've worn everyday for the past 1.5 years or so and it still looks shiny and hasn't yellowed a bit. I think for necklaces, I prefer white gold. But if you want to go with platinum, the price difference isn't that much.

I think you should go with platinum. Will it go on a platinum chain also?

Don''t get me wrong here. I love Plat.

I had a problem with contact dermatitis years ago. The interesting thing was, my set was YG and not WG. So the usual suspect, nickle, wasn''t really a consideration. I wound up ditching my YG ring set and went to plat. Only thing that cured my problem with wearing rings.

I have mentioned this problem to several jewelers and they''ve heard similar comments from other women. WG for necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, but rings MUST be plat. Other women have the same problem. Contact dermatitis. Possibly due to body chemistry changes over the years??!!

For earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, I''ve always done alright with WG. Maybe a touch up here and there, but definitely not the "every 6 months" maintenance of rings.

Maybe it has to do with the wear on hands. Acids in the skin of hands. I don''t know. But for me, WG works everywhere but in rings.

Just a thought for you.

Well that''s good news that it hasn''t yellowed that much. Hopefully it yellows slower than rings.

Yup, the chain would also be plat.

I''ve never had an allergy to WG, but that''s interesting. I''ve never worn WG earrings, but I suspect if I would have an issue it would be with them. I have sensitive ears.

Sounds perfect to me

hi!! I have just a second as I am dashing out the door but hmm... for just $157 more I''d be tempted to go with the plat, just b/c I like plat :) But my pendant, chain and earrings are all in WG and I am very happy with them. They are not turning yellow at all.
I ended up with the martini setting b/c I was not sure whether I liked the WF stock bezel (in some pics it looked bulky to me, and had a long back part - barrel like.) In some other pics it looked great, but I wanted to be sure I would like mine right away and avoid costly returns/resets. I also did not want to do a custom bezel mainly for cost reasons (it would end up with the setting almost as much as the stone, and I might upgrade the stone at some point, so it seemed wasteful.)

Although it''s not as exciting I knew I liked the martini consistently in pics so I ordered it. I also like how it matches my earrings. I still might consider at bezel at some point, but who knows?

I''m excited for your project KCoursolle!

So I took some pics for a thread and they came out awful! I''m super busy right now and will probably not have a chance to take more for a week or so, but let me see if I can post one of the awful ones... promise you won''t laugh at my neck, it doesn''t look this bad in real life!

I am so sorry you guys, I can''t get it to resize properly and I have to head out... I will not be around PS much for a week or so but I will work on it again when I get back! :)

Thanks for chiming in!!! I really love your new pendant and I re-read your threads and piccos since they are so similar. I agree with you that WF's stock setting is just to bulky. They used to have a thinner bezel stock setting and I wish they would bring that one back (hint hint WF

). Because of this issue, I will probably be ordering a pendant from someone else even though I love the folks at WF and I love their ACA stones!!! I'm really set on a bezel though for the size help, and I don't want to go custom and loose return options on a smaller project like this.

Glad to hear your WG settings are working well for you. As you mentioned with a small price difference, I am leaning towards platinum.

This project sort of came out of nowhere!!! My mom mentioned that she wanted to buy me a $350 gift (and said I could chip in) and my mind started thinking LOL. At first I thought stay within budget and get gemstone earrings...but then I started thinking that any opportunity of a gift is an opportunity to get something I really want for less money!

I've always wanted a bezel pendant and I'm really excited to get one!! It will be even more special since it's parly a gift from my mom.

Furthermore, I started out looking at .30 pendants...but then I thought what I really want was closer to .5...so I settled on a size around .43 since that's quite a bit cheaper than .5 and still looks bigger than .30. Eeek, it's already been upgraded and I haven't purchased it yet LOL.

By the way, do you think platinum will prevent flipping more than WF with the heaviness??

When you get back there better be pictures young lady LOL!!! Just kidding, but I would love to see some pictures of your lovely pendant

How exciting K. I would go with platinum. Yeah, agree with you on the bezel, the cheapest way to make your stone look bigger. I have 2 bezel necklaces (0.33c and 0.55c) and you''ve made the right choice by getting the 0.43c over the 0.30c. I am so excited for you.

Any chance you have pictures of these necklaces? I''d love to see them!!! I''d love to get an idea of size difference because it would be about in the middle of your two necklaces.
