Hi all. My mother gave me this ring and although it's not really my taste, I am very drawn to it! I think that I'm just distracted by the yellow gold. I'm not really a yellow-gold-type of girl, BUT my teen daughter loves it as is. I appreciate how yellow gold looks on her because she always accessorizes in yellow gold, but I tend to wear white gold and platinum and for some reason, I think I can't pull off yellow gold. My concern is that if I do rhodium dip it, it will change the overall look. Do any of you think that rhodium dipping will ruin this ring? I appreciate your honest opinions.

First of all, what a beautiful ring! I love braided gold jewelry and am quite a fan of it in bracelets. Personally, even though I generally prefer the other alloys to yellow gold, I think yellow seems to work well with this piece. I think it lends it a sense of antiquity that a rhodium plating might diminish with its modernism.

However, either would be great and you're the one wearing it. Your teenage daughter can wait her turn!

Pretty & unique ring! I think it looks great in YG but also being a white metal person, I think it would also look awesome plated white, as long as you're okay with the maintenance to keep it that way with potential frequent replating.

I love the ring and think it is pretty and unique. But I know that yellow gold, at least on me, makes my skin look sallow. If you love the ring but not the color I say go for it. Anything that keeps it on a finger and not in a drawer.

Is it as easy as just having it plated? On time I took my mom's ring to a jeweler and they said they couldn't do it :/. I may have to check into this option again.

Yes. They dip it in rhodium to make it white. But it can't go back to yellow as easily or ever look original again.

That's a good way of putting it and that is my biggest fear. I'm afraid the cool tones will take away the charm.

Yes it can. I had a diamond cut yellow gold butterfly pendant rhodium dipped. Quite a few years later, I was appreciating yellow again. They had no problem turning it back to it's yellow.
