I live in AUS. I have a lovely diamond that has chips on the girdle. So, i am in the hunt for someone that can polish the chips out of the diamond. There are no diamond polishers in AUS. I know that they are in USA, but not sure of who or where. I am assuming that diamond cutters will be polishers as well. I will be in the Salem OR, USA in August 2013, for 2 weeks.
I have worked with my jeweller in the past and they are working on something for me with this diamond. They have advised not to put prongs (or bezel) in the areas of the chips on the girdle to hide them. Doing so will propagate the chips further. That makes sense.
My options as i understand it:
1) do wait till i am in the USA to polish the chips then return to AUS to finish the job= long time before i get my project
2) wait till in the USA- ship the diamond to online USA vendor for them to polish and finish the job
3) finish the ring in AUS and when in USA, send to diamond polisher who will remove the diamond to polish and return to me in the 2 week time frame.
I prefer the 3) option as i am really excited about this project and can't wait to get it finished. If this is the option that i go with, how long would it take for the diamond to be polished- shipping to the polisher, polish the diamond, shipping it back to me? Will it be less than 2 weeks, which is the total time that i am in the USA.
I would like to hear from anyone with advice on my options, or if there are any other options that I am not aware of.
