would you or/and your SO quit your jobs if ...

Definitely. My first big purchase would be a ridiculous piece of jewelry, of course, but after that, I would pay for my Ph.D. once my youngest started 1st grade. Then I would find work that I loved, if I felt like it after finishing school. Maybe I would just start a charitable foundation or something.

DH already has his MBA, but I think that he would start his own business. He has always wanted to, but he is the sole breadwinner for our family (at least while our children are small & I''m at home), plus he''s got one of those "golden handcuff" jobs - the pay is too good to pass up - so he has put that dream on the backburner for now.

I could easily just go to school and never work for a paycheck again, but DH defines a lot of his identity by his work. Then again, maybe I''m wrong - he may just want to hang out on the golf course all day

I would quit, and then become a volunteer somewhere. DH would not unless he was fed up; he enjoys his work and feels fulfilled.

There would be no big ticket items bought. Debts would be paid off, parents would be taken care of. Taxes would be paid, money would be invested.

Then we would travel. We might have a vacation home somewhere. Maybe. And I''d buy an Acura for myself. Hubby would like a new Honda.

We would like the financial freedom to do what we want, when we want. There are no material possessions that would give us the same pleasure.

Nope, can''t think of a thing either of us would want, ''cept a room with a fabulous view wherever we travel.

Without a doubt! He would spend his time doing community theater and choirs and I would freelance graphic design. Maybe do free designs for non profit organizations. Our first big ticket would be a nice house in a friendly suburb. Second would be a completely tricked out graphic design studio for me lol and a gaming room or theater room for him :)

Well, I couldn''t say I''d "quit" as I''m a SAHM and I think that would entail hiring a nanny or something.

DH would definitely quit. We would buy a big RV and start touring the US with our kids. After that, we''d begin traveling abroad. We''d probably hire some sort of a tutor to educate our children while showing them the world. After we finished traveling (?) we would probably build houses in a couple of our favorite areas so we could continue the good life.

We would donate a large portion to our community, church, etc and I''d set up college funds for everyone in our family. We''d pay off our parents homes (and probably build my parents a new one) We''d make sure everyone in our family had what they needed.

Yep, we'd probably both quit working!

We'd live frugally and spend our money on travel and a house.

I would want to still work at least part-time, but I would also want to get my PhD, and J would want to get a degree or two also. The very first thing we would probably do would be to start house hunting, and pay off my student loans and my parents'' & brothers'' bills... Sorry for being boring, but yeah, pretty ordinary stuff.

We''ve talked about this before. I don''t work outside my home, so no impact. My husband doesn''t want to quit his job cause he likes it. I might prefer he take a part time consultant type role though. Then we could have a free schedule for travel, etc.

Actually I need to give this topic more thought. thanks for bringing it up DF.

Yes. Slowly but surely.

I''d so quit.

And then I''d pay off my student loans, pay off my mortgage, and buy my parents a new home.

It''s nice to dream, isn''t it?

Mr Gailey would quit in a heart-beat.

Me, I may do things a little differently, but I have my own domestic gardening business. A lot of my clients are elderly. They love their gardens, they just don''t have the stamina and fitness to be able to do it themselves any more. So no, I wouldn''t quit because I am genuinely fond of them and their gardens are like my gardens. I would still look after them. I might hire a bit more help and the major change would be I wouldn''t charge my existing customers a penny piece any more. Love to be in a financial position to be able to do that.

And yes, I''d buy myself a honking big diamond cushion (a la Boston Jeff) to wear on the days I wasn''t working. Oh and a French cut eternity band to wear with it.

Um, DUH.

My husband hates his job and it pays dirt. I like my job, but I would rather buy all the photography equipment I have always wanted and open a studio instead. And take care of my kiddos!

I once read that a couple that win the lottery have increased odds for divorce so I do not play the lottery. I sometimes daydream about a million dollars because I think most of that would just go to pay off our mortgage/bills/gift to family members.

HI:

I''d give most of it away (hospital, University, etc) and get a job gardening for Gailey. I''d work for a dollar a day and use the pay to take her to lunch at the end of the week. My DH loves his work so I doubt he''d quit, maybe just work half time.

cheers--Sharon

No....I like my job (counsellnig) and find helping others and using my skills quite rewarding. Counsellors are pretty limited where I live, too. I might consider working part-time if I won the lottery but I probably wouldn't give it up altogether.

We would definitely try to take some fancy trips, though! I'd love to go to Hawaii.

After the phone call that just came into my office?
Absolutely.

We''re getting audited. Again.
2nd one this month. (no. They have never found an issue)

NEVER work for stock brokers.

Absolutely. I'd send him (Fi) back to school too.

First big ticket item?

Student loans paid in full.

Then my 2ctw diamond earrings, plus jackets.

Then a 2.5ctw 5 stone ring in a u-prong

Then a house a few blocks away in our more ritzy area of town (on one of the lakes).

We'd probably keep our current place too and let my brothers live there, maybe not.. hmmm

But, most importantly I'd be handing out cash to my friends for student loan payment (like the one that has $130k in loans from school!)

I thought of a big ticket item as something more "tangible". Hence my first response.

Of course I would pay off our debts (student loans mostly) first and gift some to family before the "luxury items". Then would come the vacations, new car(s) and our dream house!

Totally! My husband would no doubt quit the next day and I would finish out the school year since I''m a teacher and I wouldn''t want to leave my kids without finishing the year. After paying all the bills I have a feeling I would be simultaneously purchasing house, new cars and a big ass diamond! Oh to dream...

My husband would quit his job in an instant, I probably would not - but I would start my own private practice and only work part-time

oh - and I would buy my dream house for my husband and I, and a house for my sister :)

Absolutly! The first thing I''d buy would be a house.....BF would prefer a stupidly expensive super car.

I am pretty sure that my DH would, but I don''t think that I would quit completely. I worked too hard to just quit.

Of course diamonds would be in the near future, but a nice family vacation would be first on the list.

Quit and start our own business!

Put half of it away for retirement.

I like to daydream and imagine what I would do differently if I didn't have to work a particular job to pay the bills. My husband otoh hates these kinds of questions; he sees it as people in this mindset of waiting around for this "thing" to happen to them before your "real life" or better life begins. But then the job he has he just does for the money so despite all that, dollars to donuts he would quit his job but keep busy doing other things. He likes big old houses. He'd try to convince me to buy some property as an investment so he could hang out all day over there with his cup of coffee fixing it up.

Myself, it's scary to think of quitting a job because worked since HS. Part of me feels may decide to still work part time because a) I'm 25 years from retirement, b) I could get health insurance for my family through my job, and c) it would make me appreciate the time I had off more. Or I might say screw it

. Even if just lived off 3% of principal that's what, 75K a year? So yes, quit job, but then would still have to live within that 75K budget for all daily expenses, including health insurance which is expensive if it's not through a job. Maybe I'd work a part time job for a year so I could save 30K for jewelry/travel/clothes blowout, and then live "frugally" on 75K a year after that. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I will definitely quit my job!!! Everyday I''m dreading my feet just to get to work! And I will definitely get lots of sparklies!

But nah... don''t think it will ever happen in this lifetime tho. Bah

I''d be like ''what job?"

Would we quit? Of course
Would we stop working? Never. We are both students because we want to be. My dream is an archaeologist and having losts of cash just means I can find my own digs and DH can stay at home and write, which is what he wants.
The first thing we would do is probably move. Go to the school I want to get my PhD from in Europe and buy a nice place to live.

I would quit my job, but I''d probably keep going to school. (I''m working on a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and it''s definitely interesting enough to finish!) My husband absolutely LOVES his job so I honestly don''t know if he would quit. Maybe eventually he would, but not right away I bet.

We''d probably buy a house in Spain after several trips to decide exactly where to buy, of course! And then pay off our mortgage and our parents'' mortgages. And I''d buy my twin sister a house! Eventually we''ll probably buy a house in Spain whether we win the lotto or not, though.

I don''t play the lottery regularly (I''ve probably bought 5 tickets in my life) so I''d say I have even less of a chance of winning it than most people!
