Hi everybody,

I''ve been lurking on PS for a while and the information and resources are amazing. I''m incredibly thankful that there is a place such as this on the internet. I''ve narrowed down my search to a diamond that I''d like some input on before I commit. It currently is on it''s way to AGA for appraisal.

RB VS2 H 1.86 GIA Excellent Cut
Polish and Symmetry Excellent
Flouro: None

Dimensions:
Table 55%
Depth: 62.6
Crown Angle: 36
Pavillion Angle 40.6
Thin to medium girdle
Culet: none

It gets a 1.8 on the HCA and AGA classifies it as a 1B.

Thanks everybody!

It looks great and a fiery ideal cut also!! It would be useful if you could post the diameter measurements too, so we can see how it is for face up size, but it is looking good

Thanks for the input guys!

The dimensions are:
7.83x7.86x4.91

I also found another potential candidate that looks promising:

RB 1.85 G VS2 GIA Very Good Cut grade
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Flouro: None
Culet None

7.91x7.95x4.78
Table: 59
Total Depth: 60.3
Pavillion Depth: 43
Crown Angle 34.5
Pavillion Angle 40.6

It gets a 1.1 on the HCA and also a 1B on the AGA. It''s actually better than the 1.86 on the AGA b/c the 1.86 gets a 2B on the crown angle whereas the 1.85 gets all 1A and 1Bs.

I''m considering having the 1.85 also appraised since it gets an even better HCA rating of Excellent for all four categories (the 1.86 gets an excellent in two of the four) It does cost $2000 more however due to the G color.

Unless I''m misinformed, the difference between a G and H is not important right?

I also don''t really like that it has a VG cut grade either, however it does get better HCA and AGA grades...

Regarding the differences in the HCA scores, don't go by that as the HCA isn't used to select stones, rather to eliminate poorly performing ones. It can't judge individual performance or personality of a diamond, as it can't physically see the stone, so you really need to evaluate by other means such as an appraiser ( as you are considering doing), Idealscope images and your own eyes. The second diamond has a table which is a little larger than some prefer, but if you are going to have both diamonds appraised, then perhaps you can see both and see which appeals most. Some adore fiery ideal cuts such as the first diamond ( which may display more fire if the lighting conditions are right), others prefer the proportions of the second diamond. If you can, see both so you can see which you prefer.

Also it depends on your own colour sensitivity whether you could tell the difference between G and H grades, I would think the majority could not.
