I had this diamond removed from my original e-ring to see what it was...I could tell there were times it didn't sparkle as the cut is not good

It's an H color, and SI2 (I can't see inclusions with my naked eye)

Here are the spec's:

1.001 Ct RB
6.37mm x 6.42mm x 3.91mm
Total Depth: 61.2%
Table: 63%
Crown Angle: 34.8
Pavil Angle: 41.8
Culet 0.4%
Girdle Thickness: 2.1%

Just trying to figure out what to do with it. Maybe re-cut and put in a pendant :?

Appreciate any suggestions

edited for table %

what is the table %?

oops...table is 63% (thanks!)

If you're not happy with it, then I'd consider getting it recut. But, I'd be interested in knowing what the end weight would be before determining how to best use. Do you wear it today?

Only a diamond cutter could tell you what it would end up as. This is exactly what I did with my original ering stone. I had it recut to an "almost" perfect stone and set into a pendant. It lost a little weight but I am very pleased with the results. The cutter was able to get 7 really good arrows and one not-so-good arrow. It is sentimental to me, I wear it 24/7 and sparkles very nicely. Cost me several hundred dollars and I had no need to get it certified but it was only 0.5 ct. You have a lot more to work with!

centralsquare: I recently had it removed from ering and it's just loose

swingirl: Thanks for the good info, sounds like it worked out really well for yours

I'd send it to him to evaluate. That table is huge. See what he says he can do and then decide when you have the information.

I would rather have a beautiful smaller stone than a so so bigger one. I would see what they can do.

I agree that a smaller beautiful stone is much preferred over a larger one that doesn’t perform.
If you decide to send it in to be evaluated then decide its not worth it all you would loose is the shipping.
You won’t know if you don’t take the chance and you might not loose that much in the cutting.

My first question: have you compared to other RBs of various proportions? You might find that if you compare it to other stones in a variety of lighting types you A) don't note a difference, or B) don't note a difference significant enough to bother with the cost, risk, and time of a re-cut. No, the stone's numbers aren't near what we would choose here on PS (the pav) but if you're planning on setting it into a pendant or something that's scrutinized less than a ring you may find after a real-world comparison in various lighting types that you don't want to take the risk of a re-cut on such a sentimental stone. Or you may not!

Sending it in for evaluation regarding recut potential is a good idea.

Thanks everyone!!! I've decided to go ahead and invest in the shipping and send it to the cutter for his opinion

I think that's a great decision.

I think that's a great decision, too. Let us know how it goes. Did you take pictures of the "before" so that we can see it compared with the "after."

I wouldn't hesitate to get a diamond recut by BGD.

My mother chipped her ering a while back and I had it sent to brian for a recut. What came back was an even more gorgeous diamond. There was a tad loss on the size but the sparkles more than made up for it.

In your case I would definitely send the diamond to brian and see what he says. Best of luck!

Thanks annee, sounds encouraging. I''m planning to send it in this week.
