Would you fly a long distance for a short interview?

Thanks, Tacori, for offering to take care of our cats. We''re going to call a pet sitter (they get fed 2x per day, and I wouldn''t burden you with that) but I appreciate the offer. Hey, by the way, let me know if you''re free this weekend and we''ll plan our ice cream date.

RaiKai -- thank you so much! My husband is convinced that one of the reasons he got his current job last year was because he was happily willing to fly down here for a face-to-face interview instead of doing an initial phone interview. The only difference is that his interview was much longer than 10 minutes. Hopefully thee principal and I will keep talking and mine will go over the odd time limit.

Thanks Swimmer! Yeah, we''re flying into Logan. I wish it was Manchester because that would be SO convenient, for me at least. My husband''s going to stay in Boston since that''s where he needs to be the following day anyway. I''ll either be going home to my parents'' (which is out of the way but at least I''ll get to see them), or I''ll rent a car and drive up to the seacoast. I''m sure you know the town I''m heading to if you''re familiar with that area. It''s a *really* short word. That''s all I''ll say on that.

Haven -- what Swimmer said is correct. I know what you mean because I currently work in a very large district, but it''s very different to deal with smaller school districts. Like night and day. I appreciate your advice though! Thank you for the good thoughts.

HH -- I''d love to see you! A traveling GTG with you and Swimmer would be awesome! Maybe next time...

Thanks Lilyfoot! I appreciate it.

HVVS -- I wouldn''t say they''re not that interested (inflexible to a degree, sure). If that was the case, I wouldn''t have been called in the first place. My perspective about small towns is different than yours, but thanks for giving me your thoughts.

Best wishes for your and your husband. I hope you land the jobs. I finally got a rejection letter, as expected. I knew I was overqualified the moment I sat down with those people. And I''ve since run into two other people who''ve interviewed a couple of times at that place, and they say it''s in financial trouble and it''s being not run right, lol. I have my eye on two larger metro areas that are better locations. I think I''d rather be where there is better access to cultural amenities and major universities, anyway.

I was hoping for a good news update when I saw this thread bumped up.

Still thinking great thoughts for you, Zoe!

I''ve also enjoyed learning about how different school systems function in different areas. It''s so interesting, and I appreciate you and Swimmer taking the time to share how things work in smaller districts. So, thank you!

DUSTDUSTDUST for a great interview, Zoe!

Thank you very much HVVS! Good luck to you!

Hi Haven! Thanks for the good wishes! I had my 10 minute screening interview today and although I think it went okay, I didn''t get a warm, fuzzy feeling from the principal. I thought it was going to be a meeting with just her but there was a whole committee lined up. They asked 5 questions, I had a chance to tell them something about myself that they didn''t ask, and that was it. They''re going to let people know by Friday if they''re going to the second round. Honestly, I''d be surprised if I get a call. I think I was nervous, which is odd because I wasn''t nervous at all during the last few interviews I went on earlier this year. I wish I had done better but it''s not the end of the world.

The good news is that I can return to my old position in another district in our home state in the fall if I want to (I had taken a leave of absence when we moved, anticipating the possibility of returning after a year). While it''s not on the coast, it''s right near my parents, and it''s a good school. I was so sad to leave last summer.

The other good news is that my husband has scheduled 2 interviews on our short trip this week. He''s in Boston today (he began his interview at 11 and as far as I know, he''s still meeting with the company. I haven''t heard from him yet.) and he has another interview lined up for tomorrow This one happens to be at a place he used to work at 4 years ago.

So things are looking up!

That''s a lot of good news, Zoe! So the worst case scenario is that you have a job with a school you already know and like--that''s excellent!

I hope the interview went better than what your instinct is telling you. I know I thought I completely bombed my interview with the VP of the CC that ended up hiring me, so my instincts were totally off. The dean actually told me that I really impressed the VP, which was shocking, so I hope you''re equally as wrong as I was!

It sounds like either way you have some great options, so that''s wonderful. I''ll be sending good vibes your way until you are happily settled in somewhere in the fall!
