Would you feel guilty admiring a celebrity who could be your child?

I am addicted to Figure Skating!

This is my first year following an entire season and I am obsessed!

Anyways I have my favourites in the mens and womens and they are all BABIES! Seriously I am old enough to be their (very young) mother.

I am currently enamoured with a tall South Korean skater who reminds me of the Pink Bandit when he was 18. This got me thinking, is it inappropriate to admire a celeb who is young enough to be your kid?

My friend has a BIG crush on a 20yr old actor, follows him on Instagram and everything and watches his terrible acting and series because she thinks he's a cutie

Not at all. You admire someone who is supremely talented and skilled and appreciate the skating. Anyway at my age it's a given because there are more people who are younger than me than older at this point so I go with the flow.

Age is not directly related to admirable skills anyway and at any age a person can be madly talented and admired so I think it is A OK. It's not like you want to be romantically involved with a juvenile. Obviously that is different but IMO admiring and respecting someone who is young enough to be your child is absolutely fine!

Oh Missy I remember watching the Olympics and they were all older or a bit older and now everyone is a baby!

Same with TV series! All the people my age are playing mothers and all the tragic romantic nonsense I watch is full of younguns!

Lol I feel old!

Hahaha yup exactly. I remember alwaysnbeing the youngest person in every room all the time. I skipped 2 grades so I was always the baby of the class. Somehow overnight it all changed and everyone is younger than me.:geek2:

But I attribute my youthfulness to my immaturity. It works for me.

Haha that's me! The other day my 6yo said to me "No one understands quite like you mummy. It's like you are a little boy yourself. You have more rogue ideas than normal little boys."

I have a pretty good memory so can remember exact details of my youth. He wanted me to play his recorder which I did for a few bars and then apologised for not remembering. The memory of me learning it was so vivid it took me a while to realise I learnt recorder when I was 11, not just a few years ago!!!

I think that's why I feel young. When you can walk through distinct memories of being 6, you feel 6 again!

Most of the young people in the Olympics and the starring in movies are more of an age to be my grandchildren than my children, and it has nothing to do with how I feel about them. The question is why do you feel guilty? That's a good subject for your next psychoanalytic session. ;))

Deb :wavey:

I think your head is like Vegas -- what happens in your head can STAY in your head. No one needs to know!

Your story made me smile.
I too learnt recorder in primary school but I still have my recorder ! And back in the day I played “God Save the Queen” at school assemblies and even now, at 58 (Gawd, where did the years go) I can still play it.
I can’t remember what I did two days ago but 50 years ago - no worries! :lol-2:

This is my view, entirely. ;)2

I feel that way about Patrick Mahomes. I have a son his age. That boy can play football. I don't feel bad about it, cuz I just look at him and think, 'he is such a baby'.
When we were watching him play this year, I often thought it would be so fun to be his parent and go all over the country watching him play. I loved watching my youngest play but wow, not even on the same scale.

My favourite ice skating boy bombed his freeskate :cry2::cry2::cry2:

Keeps growing so he's got issues with his ice skating boots!

Sometimes, I watch my favorite 13 year old gymnast and worry about her health like a mother. :eek2: “No... not another injury! Will you be okay when your have a growth spurt?”

It’s fun to watch them grow up and then look at older videos. They have really changed.
