Hello,
I have been browsing and reading on this site for months now. I am hoping to get some guidance from the experts here. I am not a complete idiot, I have been reading a lot about diamonds, but certain things I just haven''t grasped. I would like a good value and sparkly diamond. I have been working with local jewelers and have finally checked out prices online. My ideal ring would be a 2.5carat,but I would love anything in that range. I am currently looking and working with EGL certs. The info posted about the diamonds I am currently looking at is from buydiamonddirect.com. So, I am hoping folks here will tell me which way to proceed. I have found some interesting diamonds:

1)

2)

3)
Carat: 2.43
Color: G

Girdle:Medium
Cul: N
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Flr: N
Measurements: 8.82x8.79x5.16

Price: $23,943.28

Please let me know if these look good and are good values. Everything I have seen in person or online is significantly more expensive than this, by at least 6k. So, I want to know if it is because these are of lesser value or if the internet is just more affordable. I would appreciate any expert input. Also, if people could suggest as to how to proceed with online purchases. I will do a search and read people''s suggestions, but if for example they can e-mail the cert. and stuff that people that do this or have done it would only know. Thanks!

It''s difficult to say much about these stones without crown and pavillion angles and images. Can you add them? Keep in mind with pricing that EGL certs are known to be a little less strict that GIA/AGS and these stones can be a grade or two lower in color or clarity. This is okay, but when comparing prices, you might want to compare the prices with stones that are a grade or two lower in color/clarity so they may not actually be that much cheaper.

Did you check out jamesallen.com? They have well-cut stones for a very reasonable budget and they offer more information about their stones such as images and ideal scope images.

You need to find out the country of origin of the EGL certs in order to compare apples to apples, apples to oranges, and apples to prunes.

The first stone is ridiculously under priced, so it is probably an EGL-Israel report (a prune). The second stone you didn''t price. The third stone is only moderately under priced, so it could be and EGL-USA or EGL-Europe report (an apple or an orange).

Some of the EGL labs have stricter and more consistent grading than others. You might want to consider sticking with EGL-USA or Canada or European reports, although sometimes a plum will pop up here and there from the others.
