Would you be miffed?

Re: Would you be miffed?

Not sure, but I thought that ella had posted somewhere saying that flipping was not allowed on the Preloved forum.

Re: Would you be miffed?

"Advertising in this section is for CONSUMERS ONLY. If we feel that any member is abusing the privilege, a time out will be given and a second warning will result in a long time out from PS or permanent banning depending on the situation. Items purchased with the intent of reselling for a profit (known as flipping) is not allowed on the PS preloved forum."

Above as quoted by ella

Actually, this is how ella words it. But the word "intent" imo does leave it open to interpretation.

Nope.
Once it's sold, it's sold.
Not my concern if the buyer sells it for a zillion bucks claiming it belonged to Queen Elizabeth.
YUP!!

Re: Would you be miffed?

flipping is an inherent possibility anytime one has a "for sale" site and puts one's items up "for sale". it is one of the reasons i wasn't supportive of that forum in the first place....however, i have made one purchase there that would never have happened otherwise. as in all things, gotta take the bad with the good and that goes for both sellers and buyers.

I could be wrong, but I got the impression Elisa saw the bracelet for sale on a different forum, not PS. I scrolled through the listings and didn't see the bracelet for sale again, but I could have missed it.

Elisa, could you confirm this?

Never mind, I found it on PS. Unfortunate but not sure it constitutes flipping. :read:

Re: Would you be miffed?

I wouldn't be miffed unless someone sold it back on preloved for more money which is exactly what happened. Seems like flipping to me- selling it for more than you paid in a relatively short time period. If you sold something here and someone sold it on ebay somehow it seems less aggravating than selling it back here. That is my opinion anyway. Seems wrong. It would be different if she sold it for the same price she had bought it for from you. For whatever reason- hey we all change our mind about jewelry LOL but by purchasing it, and asking for money off (for said defect) and than selling it for more money, well, it feels like a trust was betrayed or something. Preloved is for PSers and not for people who want to purchase low and sell high. Doesn't feel right here. IMO.

Let's keep in mind one thing here...

Preloved sellers often do not take returns. You buy it, you're stuck with it.

So if you don't like it, then your only choice to get your money back is to resell it. And hey, if you can get more for it, then more power to you. Therefore it may not have been bought with the intention to flip.

Btw, when I made my comment about PS being full of flippers, it was just an overall joke, not directed to this particular instance.

Re: Would you be miffed?

There is also a chance that they are listing it higher than they are hoping to get, knowing that most buyers negotiate. I've done the same.

Re: Would you be miffed?

The supposed "defective clasp" thing would irk me. I wonder if there was such a defect in the first place. :nono:

I hear you TG. And I don't disagree. If you buy something on DB you shouldn't have to keep it forever if you decide it's not for you.
However it still doesn't seem right (to me) to sell it back for more than you had bought it for. As that is not in the spirit of the PS preloved. The only thing I have bought (so far) on DB I absolutely love (thank you Yenny!) and it was bought on DB previously and then sold to me when Yenny realized she wasn't really wearing it. However, she sold it on DB for the same exact price she had bought it for and for that I am grateful.

I guess you cannot prove that was the intent of the seller who resold at a higher price but the appearance is less than favorable and not in the true spirit of PS preloved whether done intentionally or not. If you want to make profit do it on ebay or elsewhere. IMO.

What "spirit" are we talking about? The rules don't allow flipping (buying with the INTENT of reselling it for a higher price). If the buyer didn't like it after honestly thinking she'd wear it, I see no problem with listing higher. It's hers to do what she wishes. People don't have to PAY it, you know. People can think the seller is a crackpot and move on.

This is not to slam Yenny at all (because I like Yenny), but since you bought it as an example, why is it then fair to sell it at the SAME price? Isn't it therefore more "used" since it's been in the hands of yet another person?

I'm just saying it's a slippery slope. People can ask for the moon. The market at the time dictates what people will pay.

And really, the person selling the bracelet is also a PSer, so let's give the person the benefit of the doubt. It's obvious with a search what the piece is, who bought it and who is reselling it, and now people are hypothesizing on whether the buyer faked a claim about the defective clasp? :nono: What about the "spirit" of the OP when posting this and calling out the fact that the seller (again, a PSer) isn't being 100% honest by not calling out a defect?

Ok I've been outed yes it's the DBTY and I sold it at asking but then buyer found a defect, (clasp issue that I never saw), I refunded money. But i could have sold it to another buyer for just 10 under asking and I'm pretty sure the defect would not have been an issue.
I understand making a profit, cause that's the name of the game, but I kinda felt taken.

I actually really admire those whose business/ jewelry sense allows them to buy and successfully flip.

I have two rings I got on eBay that I like but really only want my two stone to become a three stone so..... I want to sell on Pre owned and I know I would feel weird asking more than I paid especially since you all are eBay stalkers and probably know what they cost ;)
Actually all I want to do is get them to a new home!

And Elisa, FWIW, that's exactly what I would have done, if I didn't believe there was a defect. Or I would have said no to a discount and say if she didn't like it, return it. You could have made the decision to make more money if you wanted to bother going through the hassle of another transaction. But you did not, so therefore you were not taken, IMHO.
