Hi all,

I am considering getting this diamond:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut-loose-diamond-2838326.htm

Apart from asking to see a picture of it, do you guys think it would deliver good sparkle and brilliance? I think it has very promising specs, but the low price is throwing me off... is it because of the faint fluorescence?

Think it is safe to get it without seeing it?

Thanks!

Absolutely NO way to know. The GIA lists only table and depth, all the other proportions have to work well together to create a stone that sparkles nicely.. Have WF call it in and get you some more info and a pic.

According to this, the depth/table % falls into the right categories, so it appears to be well cut: https://www.diamondonnet.com/knowledge/index.php?action=diamondeducation&catid=4

The Whiteflash site says "This Oval cut diamond can be professionally evaluated by one of the Whiteflash’s Graduate Gemologists upon request." - you might want to do that.

Faint fluorescence isn't a big deal, IMO, but will lower the price a little bit. Oval cuts aren't as popular so do typically cost less than round brilliant, for example.

If all else fails, it looks like they have a good return policy.

Faint fluor isn't going to have any effect on price. I agree w/ canary that it's not a big deal, but if you're concerned about wanting as little as possible for some reason you can have WF confirm that they would consider it "faint" - sometimes it can be a bit stronger or weaker than expected by the report.

I would want an ASET of that stone. Get one then see what you think.
