Would they really set a stone like this?

I came across this ring today and was just astounded at the setting. It looks extremely unsafe to me and I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen a stone set like this? I just don't get it....

Saw a ring set like that on here very recently and the person successfully returned the setting (which was the wrong size for the diamond in addition to being set too high) and started over with a new setting from another jeweler.

My grandma has a ring like that! well not that same ring but a similar style halo with the diamond set sky high. It looks very odd and not pretty. I just thought the jeweler didn't know there were supposed to cut the pongs down or something.

I looks like the just balanced the stone on there and took pics of it sitting on there without actually setting it.

Yes, I have seen stones set like that in stores. Not exactly quality work.

I have seen rings like that in person before. Very strange looking and not at all appealing!!!
