Now i promise I wont get defensive here ;) and i really appreciate you ladies understanding my annoying tendencies. Im just SOOOO worried about making a mistake again. Last time i was SO sure my pear was what i wanted, and now i have it and i thinking, bwah bwah...
and my loving FI knows how important it is to me to get something i love, and he even WANTS me to keep my pear. ( he says its tacky to sell your original e ring, clearly hes not right, but more diamonds for me) Ill be turning it in to a pendent. Something i think that will be just amazingly classic when its finished.
If you have followed my posts at all, ive said something like "if i had a dream ring it would probably be a step ut 5 stone"... but im so "i need it now" ive not been thinking about it because i just know its a twinge out of reach at the moment. But, im trying to calm that down. If I buy a nice center with a very simple solitaire i know i can update it in a year or two.... and i think i just need to tell myself "be patient!!" - plus part of me really needs "the hunt", so its nice to constantly have something to look forward to.

Please dont give me the "try them on" advise, i have. And truly truly appreciate you ladies on this site and i cannot explain how much i love this forum and the ladies and gents on it. I have been annoying, but if you could give me one more chance and give me this diamond a review

SO, i wanted some advise on this EC, it looks really nice i thought and it faces up really large, and i think it would look nice in a year to add traps and bullets.

so anyways.... thoughts?

Well, it looks really beautiful to me. :appl: Is this instead of a round M/N/O with lowish clarity?? Just wondering?

well surprisingly those are very hard to find! haha.
Ive tried to find one and im having a really hard time. I had Joh look for some for 2k and he could only find any potential matches at the .75 range. and for the few hundred more this is, i feel like its worth it. Plus, it seems to face up well

My iPhone brings me to the front page every time. :angryfire: Do you mind posting the picture here with some basic stats?

haha isnt it so annoying, always takes you to the mobile site. Ill totally post it, but in the meantime if you scroll to the bottom of the mobile site and pick full site, then go back and try again it should work (does for my galaxy  )

What do you know, the link took me there right away without my having to go to the full site on the second try. :wink2: Hmmm....sort of shallow with a table bigger than I like. It looks bright but I don't know if it is going to be a fire-shooter stone. I'm concerned it'll be more bright instead of fiery. Iffy to me but I think might be worth an ASET anyway. Go ahead and select 2 more because JA will do 3 stones for free but only if done together at the same time.

ETA
The reason for my concern is the depth. When too shallow, it doesn't reflect back like it should.

I wasnt sure about any other ones but i thought this one looked really nice so they said they would look for 2 more for me. Bah, im sad to hear you say that, i thought it had real potential

I also adore step cut five stones! I don't know enough about ECs to comment on the stone you've posted. But I did want to share that if it were me, I might consider spending the current budget on the perfect setting and temporarily putting an inexpensive colored stone in as the keystone in your realistic dream size. Then in a few years swap out the cored stone center for a diamond center. Now this would certainly make selecting an EC in a few years more challenging with specific dimensions to work with. But I'm afraid that I might not be satisfied with 6x5 stone after the haloed pear. But you are probably not as size conscience as I am! Also I have size 7.5 fingers so I need extra coverage. :)

You are right my pear is nothing if not oodles of coverage. Length was 8.5 before the halo. So she is huge! But the point rocks back and forth and hits my knuckles Hans. You're right it'll be a step down in size for the time being bit just seems cheaper in the long run to get the center stone first, as prices go up so fast.
Plus I don't like the performance of my pear or the color of my metal (my jeweler talked me out of KT, said it was a flash in the pan fad :angryfire: ) so as the size might be a step down for the time being I'll be increasing other important aspects of my ring. Plus, I think just based on our wedding and my bonus coming at the end of the year I think I'll really at most only have to wait instill next may or so to reset it. And then it'll have a lot of horizontal coverage, which I tend to like more when paired witha wedding band... I do like solitaires, but surprisingly more so when worn alone

Makes sense! Good luck finding the perfect EC. I'll be living vicariously through you!

Any other step cut people?

my only suggestion is to try and get out and try on the sizes you are thinking about... I had David send me the 1.59 and when I got it I knew it was not going to work for me. I then headed out to the local B&M a couple of times and tried on different sizes. Obviously, you will have a return policy but it will still likely save you some time.

I like the one you chose. I have an EC and would not go below a G for color. IMO it doesn't need to be IF though. Your paying big $ for that. I also like the " not so long" look so the LxW ratio appeals to me. But a lot does have to do with personal preference. Good luck!

Haha i know, Im the person that always says "you dont wear the cert on your finger", BUT, it isnt that expensive and it faces up pretty large for the size so equivilant to larger stones with lower color and clarity that are deeper. plus, the more i think about it, the more i would just LOVE to find a way to make a 5 stone ring with F, If's. How neat would that be?

You dont have an opinion on the stone Mayk? I figured youve gotten pretty educated in your hunt, id love to know if this is a keeper or not.

The one thing I've learned here.. is I don't know a lot.. so you will find I never ever weigh in except to say I like something. I think I like the one woofmama picked out better.. I would try and go as large as you can. I say this because the 1.59 K I tried on was 7.56mm and when I got it I was surprised. My e-ring is 1.30 cts and is 7.00mm and it looked larger. (I did also find out mounted they look much larger... :read: more studying needed clearly)... The first one to me is beautiful and it's very white and the video looks nice.. but Chrono brings up a good point about it being shallow. I paged through You Tube the other day and watched all of Jon's and David's video's on EC's and it helped me some but I still don't feel like I know enough to give opinions on buying or moving on...

Nielseel,
I don't get the chance to post much or even lurk as much as I used to, but I love following you on PS. I think that a step-cut five stone sounds so gorgeous. I have always loved the step cut five stones I've seen here. I love whenever I get the change to see EC bling on here, which isn't often enough! So, of course I would love to see you begin this new project! I wish I knew a lot about EC's and I'd offer you helpful feedback, but I don't. It looks pretty to me. I just wanted to wish you well and tell you that I look forward to following your bling journey. :saint:

Well aren't you sweet! I kind of wish he'd let me sell my pear to fund it now, but in trying to be patient :saint:

Nielseel.. what is your budget? and the goal? size, color, clarity.. I know at one time you were looking for warmer colors.... in an EC are you thinking more in the F range?

Budget for the stone is 2500 ish. goal is to eventually (if not relatively soon, havent decided yet) to turn it into a 5 stone to replace my pear. Now i was looking at lower colors because i am completely comfortable with them, and i assumed that would free up money to get a larger stone, however, they arent really out there. so no reason to go lower when there arent really any nice emeralds in that O range anyways.

What was weird is i had that one reserved, and JA said they could find me a few more... well i got an email today and these were what they recommended me
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ja-recomended-some-ec-confused.186312/

well, i suspect they saw my post because like 20 minutes after i posted it i got an email with 3 more options. I liked there second email the sent so i asked to reserve these 2 for asets as well, and I asked them specifically to review the fire, when reviewing the light performance

Random thought - I love a squatty EC. But with the five stone you have in mind, would it be better for finger coverage to get a tall skinny gal? You'll have plenty of EW coverage with the traps and bullets.

That I'm not sure. I had even been considering turning it e/w to get more coverage. That way I thought a chubby one might look better. Hmmmm
My fingers are 7-7.25 so I need a lot of coverage, but they arent that stubby so elongating them wasn't a huge concern, but I totally see what you mean

Gosh I'm loving the EW setting idea. It becomes almost more like a band which I adore! That would be stunning. And in that case, a squatty EC would be perfect. Yummmmmm.

The only downside I see in this idea is that these stones are sooo much smaller than your current stone, especially since it is in a halo. And you are looking at stones at a vendor who requires double the cost for an upgrade. I really agree with Mayk that I think you are going to find EC's this size much too small as compared with the ring you already have.

I think that a five stone will be gorgeous and give fantastic finger coverage. My only concern, as others have voiced is that I think you will be unhappy with the initial size of an EC solitaire. My finger is half a size bigger than yours and my asscher was just under 6mm I believe. I was fine was this for ohhh, a few months and then DSS hit real hard. I had a thread looking for suggestions and briefly considered doing a five stone as well. In the end though I decided that upgrading the center to around 7mm was a better option for ME. I was amazed by the size difference and for the first time felt like the stone 'fit' my finger. Anyway I know you are not ME but I would think hard about whether or not you will be ok wearing a stone that will be visually considerably smaller than what you are wearing now given that you may be wearing it this way for a year. However knowing that it is only temporary may get you through.

The only other thing I might suggest you consider is the LP of a step cut. I find them fascinating and beautiful but in a very different way than a round brilliant. You've been dissatisfied with the performance of your pear since almost the beginning if IIRC so I'd encourage you to consider that ECs will give you large slow flashes of light as opposed to the fast splintery flashes of a MRB. I know you already know this but in a week you've considered both options so I'm wondering if you are sure yourself which you would prefer or if you are just really ready for a change and feel that either option will make you happier than what you have now?

I think that you could be very happy with a five stone, I'm just concerned that you may become unhappy and restless with the wait in being able to complete the project. Have you considered setting the funds aside for the next year instead and completing the ring in a single project? Your current ring is very beautiful but I understand that you've never been able to completely embrace it and perhaps have an emotional need to find something now. I felt exactly that way when I decided to purchase the RB. I truly hope that you are able to find something that you adore and can be completely content and happy with....at least until the next project or upgrade. ;)

One thing I had considered was not turning my current e ring I to a pendent until I have the funds to complete the new ring. So I won't have a DSS problem because I'll have a e ring and a RHR. However, I would much prefer to get it all done at once. I'd rather sell my pear to fund it because I know I'll be more attached to it once we are married so I want to cut the cord now

Maybe I'll work on him see if hr doesn't mind
