I've been a lurker on PriceScope for a while and decided to finally make an account:) So I've been look at diamonds around 1.5 carat. Our budget is around $9000. We're fine with doing some concessions when it comes to both color and clarity.

Somehow I ended up looking at this diamond, and I think it might be an amazing one. I don't want to post a link since I don't quit have the funds to purchase yet...but I was thinking about this one:

Carat Weight : Around 1.80
Cut : Excellent
Color : J
Clarity : Vs2
Price($) : $10,900
Lab Name : GIA
Depth : 62.00
Table : 55.00
Polish : Excellent
Symmetry : Excellent
Girdle : M
Culet : None
Fluorescence : Medium
Measurements : 7.82x7.85x4.85

Even though it's a J color, it has medium blue fluor, so I figured that might help it a little, even though I don't mind a not so icy white diamond. It has a great HCA score, and only 1 inclusion, that I think I could very well live with.

We're still fairly new to the whole diamond purchasing thing, so I would love some advice from the experts! What do you guys think about this diamond? And also, would you mind giving me a few suggestions of some more great looking diamonds?

The fire and sparkle is the most important to me...and the diamond not looking 'greyish' (which is something I've seen in several stores)

I hope some people are able to help me out!diamond_14.jpg

Looks wonderful! Can you give us the crown and pavilion angles?

Yes, Does this help?

Very nice! As long as you are happy with J color, it looks like a beautiful stone at a good price! They might just let you do a short layaway if you can make a significant down payment. I'd ask!

Thnx diamondseeker! Do you have a suggestion for a better stone? We're definitely trying to get a lot of bang for our buck...any other suggestions? And what should we pay attention to when buying a loose diamond?

That listing is almost a too good to be true price (like $5000 under the competitors for 1.7ct), and it's not been included in the PS database since sometime yesterday evening.

In general, we have the Pricescope "cheatsheet" of proportions for rounds. Search for it. People here get irate when I mention it, because it's restrictive and there are relationships between crown and pavillion angles, blah blah. But it's a good starting point to narrow down a search.

HCA cut adviser score 2 or less. Some say 3 or less. Shallower stones may have tendency for head obstruction and thus might not be everyone's pick for an engagement ring because they may look "dark" to the wearer who sees them close up.

There are FIC, BIC, and TIC types of RB, cut more toward fire, brilliance, or a balanced mix in all lighting.
Steep crown angles and small tables are usually fire. Low flat crowns with large tables like 60% are more brilliance than fire.

You can search most of those terms and read through old posts here. Good Old Gold site has loads of information and tutorials. The cheat sheet numbers i think originally came from niceice dot come, who used to be a seller here and now his site is just information.
