I have a 2.5 carat RB solitaire engagement ring, to which I'd like to add an eternity wedding band. It's an EGL USA rated "I" stone, but in reality, it's closer to a GIA J.

I'm not sure how large or small the stones for an eternity band would be, but the eternity band I'd want would be 1 - 1.5 total carats. I wouldn't want the band to make my diamond look too yellow by comparison, so I was thinking I-J (or even K? not sure) color stones in the eternity would be ideal. I know that smaller stones will always appear more white than larger stones, but I figured I would minimize the color difference as much as possible.

Would it be difficult for a jeweler to source I-J color stones for a 1 - 1.5 ctw eternity band? It seems like most of the ones you can buy ready-made have F-G color stones.

Thank you!

It shouldn’t be a problem. Talk to your jeweler about it. A lot of those ‘F/G’ rings are actually H/I by the way. Sloppy grading in melee is very common. What you want may be being sold as G/H.

Neil, you''re the best, many thanks. So I should not expect the smaller stones to be in any way certified, correct? Probably not worth it for the jeweler to pay for certificates for those small stones.

Correct. The shipping to and from the lab along with the lab fees for smaller stones ends up costing quite a bit more than the stones themselves. You could do it, and a few people do, but for nearly everyone it just doesn’t make economic sense.

Yes is very easy to get melee in all color ranges. You won''t find it graded as the lab grading will cost more than the stone as Neil said.
