: left" dir="ltr id=result_box">Do you see a Fancy diamond with a clarity I1 ( IGI report) , it is good to put in the trash or not? Personnaly, I think NO ! They are still pretty with a good fire and a good polish and cut of course!

We all know that the IGI laboratory is a very strict and clarity I1 correspond to a clarity SI2 or SI1 in general !

Are you agree?

Actually, I''ve heard the opposite - IGI is known to be soft on color and clarity. So I wouldn''t buy an IGI I1, but I would consider a GIA or AGS I1 if they were eye-clean. Not for an engagement ring due to a "mind-clean" issue, but for a RHR, pendant, or earrings, sure.

I think you are mistaken...IGI is not strict at all...

I''m not sure where you''re getting your information from? It is generally recognised that IGI are far softer on grading that GIA or AGS. Personally, if the diamond looks good and it''s a great price then I would buy it - but I wouldn''t base my decision on an IGI cert.

Seriously !

IGI is not strict !???

Seriously...they are not as strict as other grading labs like AGS or GIA!

Yap, seriously. Also, color stone are worth a lot more if graded by GIA, so why would a vendor send it to IGI instead? Think about that.

Seriously, IGI is one of the most lenient grading labs out there. GIA and AGS are much stricter on colour and clarity grading. I think EGL might even have a slight edge over IGI.

Spend a little more time on the sight and maybe you''ll be a better feel for the different grading labs.
Is there are certain stone you had in mind, or just making conversation...?

Thank you guys ! BUT an I1 fancy colour diamond is more tolerated than a I1 "white" diamond?
In other words, a Fancy diamond I1 will still be pretty when a white diamond classified I1 will be not terrible, not ready to be worn in jewelry??

I don''t think that''s true. I1''s are not created equal. Some can be nice-some are downright horrible. It depends on the specific stone-not whether it is colored or colorless.

Hi Wazabi,

It depends on where in the world you are. IGI does nearly no loose diamond grading in the USA. Consumers here are exposed to their domestic finished jewelry reports or "report-appraisals," which are notoriously lenient. IGI's loose diamond grading in other places is under different management. The IGI lab in Hong Kong, for example, is considered on-par with GIA.
