DDT or the Dirty Diamond thread.

Participants would agree to NOT clean their ring for some pre-determined time, say one day or one week.
Then photograph it as close up and beautifully lit as you can in some attractive setting like on a flower or a pretty hand shot.

Bad idea, or just absurdly funny enough to work?
What do you say?
Would you do join in? or no?
Should we start it, or no?

We could make a rule that no artificial yuckie-poos allowed.
IOW, you could not just lather it up with a swill of hand lotion, lard or guacamole at the last minute.
It must be normal day to day grunge, and we'd depend on the honor system.

Or rather, maybe it would would be more fun to have a competition of how gross we can make our diamonds look.
We could have another thread of your diamond photographed in the MOST unexpected place.

Perhaps this is too sacrilegious for the PS crowd. :o

I'm in!! I am dreadfully lazy when it comes to cleaning my jewellery, and feel terribly guilty about it! But maybe, just maybe... I''m not alone?!

I won't clean my ering for a few days and will post pics then... be afraid, be very afraid. :naughty:

I'm really interested in this! I don't think I'm allowed to post pics of my stuff since I work for a vendor, but I'm watching with interest.

I'd be interested to see what happens with different shapes - I think my RBs look respectable for longer than my step cuts, but I could be kidding myself and they all look bad after a few un-cleaned days.

My Ering from 1975 has an authentic patina of time grime.

I would definitely look at it, but I can't participate. I am seriously OCD about keeping my rings clean. It makes me anxious if there's even a water spot on them! :errrr:

Count me in! I don't wear my ring for showers, lotion, etc., so it might not get *as* grungy as some of the rings we've heard of, but lemme know the start date and I'll abandon my cleaning schedule. :)

Cool.
I'll do it too.
It will be torture, one atom of gunk has me reaching for a Q-Tip, but it may be a fun thread, like that fugly-ring thread.

Should we make the time period one day, 2 days? 3 days? or one week? or what?

I think that it should be one week. That way they get good and nasty. I know it will be hard, but one or two days of not doing much wont accumulate enough grime.

It will be funny. There will be some jelly, maybe a fuzzy. I dont think that crud can harm them can it?

Count me in! I've been doing this lately anyway due to how busy I have been with wrapping up school. I've been living away from home and without proper jewelry cleaning tools!

Should we all take before shots with it clean and then take the first shot in the same setting?

Count me in, I have not washed my ring like in a month

eta: The last time I washed it was because I put my ring inside of the guacamole bowl :errrr:

I'll watch but I will not participate. It drives me nuts to walk around with a dirty ring.
My best friend has a gorgeous 3 ct rb that is constantly filthy. Maybe I'll get her to take some pictures of it. Oh, the horror!

IM IN! I'm pretty good about cleaning my ring, but I wear it all the time: Showering, gardening, cooking, sleeping, you name it.

Sometimes I like when my ring is uber dirty for a day or two, because then it looks super-duper shiny after a good bath

Heh, this reminds me--I need to clean my rings. Been a few...months. Guess I'll have to take a pic first of the dirty girl, then post a squeaky clean shot!

I can only watch. I'm OCD about cleaning jewelry, even if I'm not wearing it. How about before and after pics too? Would be more informative to the uhm, general public. :naughty:

I felt sick to my stomach trying to wash my hands today with my rings on/ not avoiding them :? :?
I"m going to try to participate.. but ever since I got my ultrasonic my rings are alwaaaays sparkly.

I think I'll post pictures of them dirty and then clean ones.

Kenny,
You make me laugh. This reminds me of the Seinfield show "Are you the master of your domian?"
Instead of being how long can you go without ____ :naughty:, its how long can you go without.....cleaning your diamond?
Obviously some PSers have no self-control :cheeky: (include me in this bunch).

so what's the amount of time going to be???? I'm starting a new job in a week...there's no way I'm showing up my first day with grimey rings!

I changed my mind.

I haven't cleaned my rings in 24 hours... During that time I: cleaned up a high school classroom, went mini-golfing, ate numerous meals (without forks), played with my dog, applied foundation/lotion, used hairspray, and who knows what else. So... I carried my rings out to the veggie garden for a photo shoot. I am appalled! :errrr: :knockout:

My name is PPM, and never again will I be so flippant when it comes to cleaning my diamonds

+1. I clean my rings several times a day. And I am constantly nagging my friends to clean theirs as well.
